On our way to the elevator, several Dauntless say, very loudly, "Hey, it's Tobias Eaton."
Another one yells,"I saw you're daddy earlier, Eaton. Are you gonna go hide?"
"Yeah, are you gonna go hide coward?" I fight the urge to punch them both dead in their faces.
Tris - noticing my discomfort - grabs my arm and steers me into the nearest elevator, making sure to close the door one we're inside.
She waits a few minutes for me to calm down before she speaks.
"I was going to tell you...He escaped Amity with Caleb... Peter escaped too-"
"What to you so long?" I ask her, a little to forcefully.
"It's not the kind of news you deliver in a cafeteria. She says simply.
"Fair enough."
Just then, the elevator comes to a stop and the doors open up to the eighteenth floor.
The floor with our interrogation room on it.
I walk to the end of the hallway where the room is located and hold the door for Tris to go in.
She barely notices.
I make my way to the center of the room and sit down in the one chair sitting on top of the scales.
"Didn't there used to be two of these?" I ask, puzzled as to where the other one went.
Tris bites her lip. "Yes.. But I uh... It got thrown out of a window."
"Strange." I muttered sarcastically, as if I didn't already know what happened. "So what did you want to talk to me about? Or was that just Marcus?"
"No, that wasn't it." She pauses. "Are you... Okay?" She asks slowly.
"I don't have a bullet in me, do I?" I say a little too curtly. "I'm fine okay? I want to talk about something else."
"I want to talk about simulations, but first - your mother said that Jeanine was going to go after the Factionless first, but she was obviously wrong, I'm just not sure why. It's not like the Candor are battle ready or anything..." She trails off.
"Well think about it. Think it through, like the Erudite."
At that, she gives me a look. I almost smile at how familiar it feels. Almost.
Instead, I say, "Just try And do figure it out. If you can't, we have no hope."
"Okay.. So the only reason I can think of is the fact that Factionless is in seperate places, whereas we're all in the same place."
"Right. And also, my mother told me that when Jeanine attacked Abnegation she got all of the Abnegation data, which showed them that the population of Divergent among the Factionless was greater than that of the Candor, which makes them an illogical target."
"Alright then. Now two me about the Serum." She's clearly going over something in her head. "I heard that it has several parts."
"Two to be exact. One of them connects to your brain waves, rerouting then in a way. The second feeds the liquid into you, putting you in a simulation state."
Tris nods."So that means that the transmitter can only be used for one simulation. What happens after that?"
"It dissolves." I tell her. "As far as I know, Erudite hasn't been able to develop a transmitter the lasts for more than one simulation, although the attack simulation lasts longer then I've ever seen."
