But when the person in blue comes into view, it's not Jeanine.

In fact, it's not anyone I've ever seen before.

She's a woman with short blond hair that she obviously sent in place of herself to fool us from a distance.

Jack's not going to be happy about this.

But when he gets close enough to see that it's not Jeanine, his face doesn't change in the slightest.

It's almost like he expected it.

Maybe he did expect it.

Or perhaps he already knew it wasn't going to be her.

Did Lauren lie to me?

"Hello, Jeanine." He says to her.

Wait, Jeanine?

The woman doesn't waste time with pleasantries. "What is it you would like to propose?" It sounds like something Jeanine would say.

And then it hits me.

Jeanine is telling the woman what to say through some sort of audio device, most likely an earpiece.

I hadn't even thought of that.

But honestly, I should have. Because even I should've known that Jeanine wouldn't be stupid enough to show herself at a popular place in the city with the risk of some people like us finding out.

Jack drops the hand he just put up and puts his lips together.

"We would like you to leave us out of your dispute in exchange for your imprisoned guards that infiltrated our compound."

The woman laughs." Surely you know me better than to think I'll overlook you in exchange for a few guards I can replace."

Jack smirks like he was expecting her to say that. "That is why I come to tell you of something I have I'm my Faction that I hear you would love to have in your custody."

The woman raises her eyebrows. "And what is that?"

"The Divergent."

My eyes widen as I realize what that means; he's planning to deliver us to Erudite behind our backs in exchange for Erudite turning a blind eye to any of their resources.

There's no way we're allowing him to go through with that.
