Bare Hands (Sequel To No Sympathy)

Peace: Part One

By the time I wake up, I actually feel rested. I can't even remember the last time I felt this way.

Soft, warm orange-yellow light filters in from my windows, signaling the rising of the sun.

And best of all, Tris is next to me, wrapped in my protective embrace, as peaceful as I've seen her in a long time. It's one of the most beautiful sights in the world. The sunlight hits her face at exactly the right angles, making her look like a mythical Goddess of some kind. I can't take my eyes off of her.

But of course, I have work today, and that means that I have to at least shower and shave before going, which takes a substantial amount of time. So which much reluctance, I leave my room and go shower.

The water somehow feels colder today, and it's not one of roar days that I need the distraction, so I end up turning if off at about the four minute mark.

I then wrap my towel around my lower half and walk back to my room, fighting off a shiver.

When I get back to my room, Tris is still asleep, looking just like she looked a few minutes ago. I thank God for letting her have at least this one peaceful moment.

I quickly put on clothes and begin my daily shave. In the middle of it, I spot Tris waking up in the mirror.

"Sleep well?" I ask her.

"Yeah." She says, getting out of bed and putting her slender arms around me and resting her head on my back.

"I love you." I tell her.

"I love you too." I feel her cheeks rise in a grin.

After a few minutes of standing like that, she backs away from me. "I'll go get ready." She says.

"I'll get you something to wear." I tell her, eyeing her exposed legs. I then retrieve a pair of shorts out of my drawer and hand them to Tris. After she puts them on, she leaves.

As always, I wish she hadn't, but some things just have to happen.

When I'm in the middle of trying to make sure my hair looks okay, I hear a scream pierce the air.

Peter's scream to be exact.

There's only one person here that would've caused that scream.

Tris.
