I watch as Tris disappears into the elevator along with Lynn and Marlene, wishing I could follow her but knowing that it would only make her more miserable than she already is.
I sit down on the bunk closest to me and think about all we have been through and how we could've gotten to this point where we're this distant from each other. We're hardly talking and she tenses up at my presence.
Gosh what have I done?
I try to find the bunk I slept on last night but to no avail, so I settle for the one I was sitting on, praying that it isn't someone elses. I'm not in the mood for a fight.
Surprisingly, sleep comes easy to me.

Some time later - how much later, I'm not sure of - a loud crash sounds from downstairs. My eyes fly open and I'm out of my bed and at the door in less than a second, my gun in hand. Several gunshots can be heard also, followed by screams.
Tris...
"Crap..." I mutter under my breath. What has she gotten herself into now?!
Just then, a girl about my age barrels in to the room and I step back before she can ram into me. When she regains her balance, I observe that she has a rifle in her hands in it looks like she has a knife in her waistband. she blocks the door and begins speaking.
"All of you," She says, panting and pointing to those of us in the hallway. "you need to follow me. There are Dauntless Traitors on the first and second floors but they'll be here soon enough. I know where we'll be safe."
I am reluctant to follow. Do I follow this girl I've never met or risk going down to help the Dauntless I do know? I scan the girls face but can't find anything that indicates that she's lying. But still, Tris is down there, and I can't deal with the fact that she might be in danger.
"What's going on?" I ask the girl. She eyes me before turning to address the rest of the Dauntless.
"Dauntless traitors are scouring the hallways as we speak. They've shot everyone with a serum of some kind that knocks it's victim unconscious. They're capturing the people who are awake...The Divergent."
Several voices can be heard behind me, discussing what they're going to do. All I'm thinking is that Tris is on one of those floors. But I try not to worry. After all, she can take care of herself. But then I remember Amity, and the state she's been in lately.
"We need to stop them." I say loudly and firmly so that everyone in the hallway hears. Even though they know that I'm not the brave instructor they all grew to know, they still pay attention to me and wait for what I have to say. "We're going to need to split up. Since this is the fifth floor, we're going to need four groups, one to cover each floor. We'll surround the traitors and fight them there."
Surprisingly, the Dauntless nod their heads in approval at my proposition and immediately start scouring through their things for weapons. Some of them have more than one and they give people without them one of theirs. It reminds me of the Abnegation, but I don't dwell on the thought for too long. It hurts too much.
Once we're all ready, I lead the way out of the door and into the hallway. We meet little resistance, and when we get to the staircase, the groups split up. When I reach the second floor door, I swing it open and see that I am in a hallway with tons of people already knocked out. I take a second to look around, searching for Tris. It only takes me a moment to find her in the sea of Dauntless Traitors standing by one of the elevators.
I quickly run to where they're all standing and shoot at the Dauntless Traitors standing around her. They go down and she ducks. Smart girl.
I quickly analyze any injuries she may have and my eyes stop at her hand which is red with blood. But then I catch sight of Eric lying down next to her, blood pooling from a wound in his neck and I know that the blood isn't hers.
Shooting at another Traitor that has gotten too close, I crouch beside her and wrap my arms around her, shielding her from the gunshots around us.
"Tell me if anyone's behind me!" I tell her over the din of running feet behind me.
After about a minute, the amount of sound around us has diminished by a long shot and I risk letting go of Tris for a second to get a look at her face. She's crying. I gently touch her cheek to urge her to look at me.
"Tris, you can put knife down now."
