Unexpected

Chapter 1

I stood looking at the pregnancy test. Two lines meant only one thing, I was pregnant. Having a baby was my dream but having it with your best friend and the fact we didn't like each other like that wasn't the best thing. I always dreamt that one day I would get married to my dream man and then we would have a baby. The night I got pregnant was a hazy night. My best friend Cory and I were really drunk. It all happened 4 weeks ago....

Cory and I were at my house having a meal together and we decided to have a few bottles of wine. We both sat on the sofa together and he leant in to kiss me. The first thing I decided to do was kiss him back as my instinct took over. We both ended up having sex on the sofa. When we both woke up the next morning Cory said we should both forget what happened. That was easier for him to say. One thing I never did was forget what happened that night.

It was only 8:00am and I had work at 12:00pm and I finished at 12:00am. I hated doing 12 hour shifts. Sometimes I only did 8 hours and that wasn't so bad. After being stood there with my pregnancy test I grabbed it and I threw it in the bin in my bathroom.

5 minutes had passed and I went downstairs and then heard a knock at my door. I opened the door to see Cory "Um... Hi," I whispered softly.

"Hi Jen. You working today?"

"Yeah I am,"

"Well what time you finishing?"

"12:00am,"

"I guess I'll be at work then so I'll come round and see you tomorrow. You still have the day off right?"

"Yeah I do,"

"Okay well see you then,"

"Okay,"

Cory left and I shut the door. Being pregnant now made everything a lot more different between us. Well Cory didn't know that but too me it was.

Time soon came around and it was time for me to go to work.

I had been on my shift about 6 hours now and I was dealing with a lady about my age who had come in with stomach pains. She was pregnant and she was 4 months. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be 4 months pregnant but I didn't have a clue to be honest.

When the porters had wheeled her bed in I went over to her and smiled "Hi Mrs Willis,"

"Please call me Emma,"

"Okay... Emma. I see you are 4 months pregnant and having stomach pains,"

"Yeah. 4 months and it feels like 9 already,"

"I'm sure pregnancy isn't that bad. Doesn't every girl dream about being pregnant and how amazing it is,"

"Yeah I thought that when I first got pregnant. So how far along are you?"

"I... uh... Excuse me,"

"You're pregnant aren't you,"

"How do you know that?"

"You look exactly like me when I first got pregnant. Scared and not sure how to tell your boyfriend or husband,"

"Half of that is right. I don't have a boyfriend and I'm not married,"

"So.. Who's the Daddy?"

"It's complicated,"

"I'm a good listener,"

I got Emma's drip set up and then I wrote in her notes. When I had finished my attention turned to her and I sat on the chair next to her bed ready to explain everything to her.

"I have this best friend called Cory and one night he came over to my house and I cooked a meal for us and we ended up drinking some wine and then we got very drunk. He started kissing me and then before I knew it one thing lead to another and now I'm pregnant,"

"Oh... complicated,"

"You could say that,"

"I'm guessing you haven't told him yet?"

"No,"

"I guess it was easier for me. I was married and we wanted kids,"

"You're one lucky girl. I wish I had a boyfriend or a husband but instead I'm pregnant with my best friends baby,"

"You know you need to tell Cory about you being pregnant,"

"I know that but it's difficult,"

"It might be a touchy subject but you need to. How long have you known?"

"Since this morning. I meant to be spending the day with him tomorrow but I sort of don't want to,"

"It's your opportunity to tell him,"

"I guess so... I'm scared he'll leave,"

"That's the chance you take but he needs to know,"

"Okay. Well I better get back to work. I'll check on you later and the Doctor will be around soon but if you need anything press the button,"

"Thank you,"

I left the room and went to check on my other patients. Cory had been trying for a while to get me to become a Doctor like him and train but I liked being a nurse. I got to talk to people and help them in my own way instead of just diagnosing patients and then leaving them.

My shift was finally over. 12:00am and I was tonight. Work was good today. It was nice to be able to go home and relax and more importantly get into bed. I was glad that I had the day off tomorrow so that I could spend the day relaxing.

I was tired and my eyes were heavy. When I got to the light not far from my house I saw the lights turned green and I began to press my foot down on the accelerator and the car began moving. I never noticed a car coming towards my side until it was hitting into me.

The car began moving and I felt the door crushing into me. I felt pain through my body and the then everything went black.
