2 weeks later...

I had been discharged from the hospital but Evelyn was still in there. Since she began breathing it was heaven. However she was still very weak. In the 2 weeks I hadn't even held her yet. That feeling of having a baby and then holding her I hadn't had and that killed me inside. Every night I stayed at the hospital with her even though Cory had begged me to come home.

It's 9:00pm and I'm sat in Evelyn's room. She was still inside the box and she was breathing better now but some time she needed a little help and she had some oxygen. Cory walked into the room and he put his hand on my shoulder "Come home with me and get some sleep," he said.

"No,"

"Jen please. You're exhausted. One night at home in our bed to get some good sleep and we will be back here first thing in the morning,"

"She needs me,"

"I know she does but you are no use to her exhausted,"

"I guess so,"

"Please hunny. Just get some decent sleep,"

I stood up from the chair and I kissed the box in front of me "Sleep well Evelyn," I whispered.

"Thank you," Cory said.

He took my hand into his and we then left Evelyn for one night.

We got home and then I walked through the door and I went to the nursery and smiled. It was all finished and everything was ready for when Evelyn was better and ready to come home.

Cory took my hand and then he pulled me into the bedroom. I got changed into some PJ's and I got into bed "Want one of my special hot chocolates?" Cory asked me.

"Yeah sounds good. Thanks,"

He left to go downstairs to make one. I put the TV on and just put a random channel on. It was just the news. I never really watched it.

Soon enough Cory was back up with the hot chocolates and we sat together in bed "You know we haven't really talked about the last couple of weeks," he mentioned.

I became a little uneasy "Yeah. It's been full on. Evelyn is ill and I've just wanted to be there for her,"

"You wont talk about how you feel,"

"I feel fine. I'm a little tired and sad that my baby girl isn't well but I'm hopeful,"

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah,"

"Okay,"

"I just want her home safely and for us to finally be a family,"

"I know I do too. Another thing your Dad would be so proud of you,"

"I hope so,"

I drank my hot chocolate and then cuddled into Cory's arms. We lay together for ages till both of us fell asleep.

I woke up at 7am the next morning and I saw the bed empty. I wondered into the nursery and  saw Cory in the rocking chair. He was sitting looking out of the window whispering something. I listened more closely and heard him talking about Evelyn but who to? That's when I saw he had a picture of his parents. They both moved away to Australia when he was 6 and left him with his Grandparents and he never saw them again.

Cory heard me walking closer and he turned around. I saw the tears in his eyes "Are you okay?" I asked him.

"I'm fine," he said quickly getting up. I reached my hand out but he ignored it.
