Unexpected

Chapter 26

I woke the next morning and went downstairs to get started on breakfast. Everyone else was sleeping still including Evelyn. I began cooking pancakes, bacon and eggs and got everything out on the table that people will need. I then heard somebody coming down the stairs and I saw Lea holding Evelyn "I didn't hear her crying for a feed?" I said to Lea.

"I woke up early and I went into the nursery and sat in the rocking chair and when I saw her waking up I go up and fed her. I thought you and Cory deserved a good sleep,"

"Yes thank you. I still woke up early though. It's like my body knows I need to,"

"I guess so,"

I saw her holding Evelyn and saw the pain in her face. I finished cooking breakfast and Cory was still asleep so decided to cook something for him later when he woke. I sat with Lea eating breakfast and then I looked at her "You look upset Lea. What are you thinking about?" I asked her.

"I know deep down I never wanted an abortion but I thought it was the best thing to do to save my marriage and Cory not finding out would have made that work but I couldn't lie to him,"

"Maybe you knew deep down inside the marriage wasn't working,"

"I gave up everything to be with Harry. I gave up my son to move away with him to keep him happy and now I've given up my chance at a child,"

"There's always a chance of having another baby,"

"And who's going to get me pregnant?"

"What if Cory and I had a baby for you?"

"I can't ask you to do that,"

"Just think about it okay. If you really want another baby maybe that is your only option,"

Cory came down the stairs and I smiled "Morning sleepy head," I said.

"Sorry did I over sleep?"

"Your Mother let us,"

"Thanks Mum,"

"No problem Cory. You're letting me stay here it was the least I could do,"

I went into the kitchen to go and make Cory's breakfast and I heard him and Lea talking. When I finished cooking I brought it in to him and sat at the table and made some more coffee for us.

"You going home today Mum?" Cory asked her.

"I am going to get some more clothes and then see what Harry has to stay for himself,"

"Mum I am sorry that I made you tell me and then this happened but I still stand by what I said last night that he caused all this,"

"Deep down sweetheart I know that,"

"Then why are you wanting to sort things out after everything he has done?"

"Because he's my husband and I love him. I have since I married him. Imagine if this was you too. I know she'd forgive you Cory because Jennifer loves you,""

"That's different. He made you move half way across the world and leave me behind. What did he even say when you told him you were pregnant?"

"He wasn't the happiest but he said he would stand by me and he said he would love you no matter what,"

"Do you believe he loves me?"

"When you were born he was so happy and his face was something to picture. I wasn't expecting him to love you as much as he did in that moment and I know he's loved you ever since. We both regret moving to Australia but me more,"

"That proves everything. He never wanted me and then the opportunity to get rid of me came and he took it,"

"I am sorry Cory. I tried to get him to stay but I loved him. Leaving you was the biggest mistake of my life and I wish I could take it back,"

"I know but I also know what you love me so don't worry about that,"

I smiled at Cory and held his hand "Lea why don't you let me come with you to your house," I suggested.

"That would be good. Thank you Jennifer. You are the best thing to happen to Cory,"

"And doesn't he know it," I giggled.

Lea giggled too and looked at Cory "And you better treat her perfectly Mr,"

"Oh I will. Jennifer and Evelyn are my baby girls and they always will be,"

Lea and I went to Harry's house a few hours after breakfast. We sat in the car and I drove. Cory said he would look after Evelyn while we came. As we pulled up outside the house we both got out the car and went inside. When we walked into the living room Harry was on the floor sat there and there was beer bottle everywhere.

"Harry," Lea said.

"Lea you came back,"

"To get my things and have a chat and that is it,"

"Chat about what?"

"You forcing me to have the abortion. I didn't want one deep down I just did it for our relationship but now I can see we aren't going to work,"

"You can't leave me. We've been married for 26 years,"

"26 years too long. I should have broke up with you the minute you suggested leaving Cory behind to go to Australia,"

"LEA! You can't say that. You did it because you loved me,"

"I should have stayed here with Cory and not gone with you. That's the biggest mistake of my life,"

"I love you Lea. Please don't leave me,"

"It's over. I'll come get the rest of my stuff at some point,"

Lea and I went upstairs to go and pack her bags. When we were done I put her bags in my car and then waited for her to come and get in the car.

When she got in I looked at her "Are you sure about this?" I asked.

"Yes I am and listen I know you were looking out for me yesterday and trying to stop me and I wish I had listened to you,"

"What is done and done and we can just get on with things now,"

"Yeah we can,"

"You ready to go?"

"Yes,"

I drove away and we made our way home. When we arrived back Cory was waiting for us and he came outside and got Lea's bags and took them to her room. I stepped into the house with Lea and she went over to see Evelyn. I looked at the clock and knew she needed feeding "Lea would you like to feed her?" I asked.

With a nod from Lea I went to get a bottle and when I returned she began feeding her.

"Lea I am really sorry about everything,"

"Don't be I'm sure everything is going to be okay,"

"But you aborted your baby that deep down you wanted,"

"I know and I'll be okay. I have you, Cory and Evelyn to look after,"

"You do,"

"You never had a honeymoon and I was thinking you guys should have one and I can stay here with Evelyn,"

"Lea that is really kind but we can't leave you at this time,"

"Yes you can. Please think about it,"

"Think about what?" we heard Cory say.

I turned to face him "Your Mother has offered to look after Evelyn while we have a proper honeymoon,"

"Mum that is really kind but we can't leave you,"

"Yes you can Cory. I can promise you I'll be okay,"

"We'll think about it,"

"You better go you both deserve it,"

The rest of the day we spent it together and Cory and I talked in bed about the honeymoon and we decided to go to Paris for a few days and have the honeymoon we always wanted.
