Unexpected

Chapter 35

A week later...

Mum had her scan today and I was going with her. I stood in the kitchen making breakfast for everyone. I put pancakes, bacon and syrup on the table with a pot of coffee. Cory came over to me as I stood against the side and he wrapped his arms around me "You okay?" he asked me. 

I turned around and faced him "I'm scared. I want her to be cancer free so much," I mentioned. 

"I'm sure things will be okay," he told me "Are you having some breakfast?"

"I'm not hungry,"

Cory went over to the table and he sat down and at with Lea. I sat down next to Evelyn and I fed her some baby food. She loved her baby food. 

Lea went to work after breakfast and then Cory took my hand into his "You'll be fine and you're Mum is going to be fine," he mentioned. 

The doorbell went and I grabbed Evelyn in my arms and then we went to the door. I grabbed my keys and got in the car with Mum. 

We got to the hospital and waited for the appointment. Mum held Evelyn in her arms and I sat there shaking my leg. I was nervous.

 "Sweetheart," Mum said putting her hand on my knee "Please don't worry. Things will be okay," 

"Why does everyone keep saying that when it might not be?" 

"Mrs Harper please," some one called out.

We followed her in the room with Mum and Evelyn and we sat down together.

"Mrs Harper after your scan we've had the results back. It seems we've managed the cancer with the radiotherapy and chemotherapy that you've had so you've got the all clear,"

I smiled hearing her words. It was amazing to here those words. Mum smiled at me and she kissed my cheek "I told you I'd be okay," she said.  

"Mrs Harper you still need to come in for monthly scans for the next 12 months and if after a year you are still clear that will extend to every 6 months and will eventually become once a year. Any pains or anything unusual then please get it checked it out," 

"I understand. Thank you ever so much,"

We all left the hospital and went back to my place. I made us both a tea and I smiled "Mum we should celebrate. I'll cook tonight. I'll invite Mark and Emma over too with the twins and we can all celebrate," I said to her. 

"I'd like that sweetheart. Maybe I could help you cook and we can spend some time together," 

"Mum that would be amazing,"

After our tea I told Cory the news and he was so happy. I also invited Emma and Mark over for dinner. I then text Lea with the news and our plans.

After shopping for some food Mum and I began cooking while Evelyn played in her play pen. Mum and I were cooking leek and potato soup, shepherds pie and bread and butter pudding. We prepared it all ready to cook later. 

At 5pm Lea arrived home and shortly after Cory got home. We had dinner with everyone at 6pm. Cory came over to me and hugged me closely "Let's celebrate on our own tonight," he whispered in my ear. I giggled softly "Mmm... you'll have to wait and see," I whispered. 

He went to get changed and then Mark, Emma and the twins arrived. I hugged Emma tight and she smiled "I knew everything would be okay," she told me. I then hugged Mark softly and I got everyone drinks. Everyone was drinking apart from Mum, Mark and me. I put the food on and thens sat with everyone in the living room. Emma looked at me "So... Why are you not drinking?" she asked me.

"I'm trying not to do stuff that. No drinking, no coffee, more exercise," 

"Right I get you,"

The timer went off and we served up the food. The night went pretty well. After we ate I went outside with Emma and walked along the garden "How are things with Mark?" I asked her. 

"Yeah better. He trusts me again which is more than I deserve but we love each other," 

"That's brilliant,"

"Yeah it is. We're sleeping in the same bed again now and we are talking more also,"

"It's good though. You guys are an amazing couple. You've bee through a lot,"

"We have. I was stupid for what I did though. I had sex with some one else. I can't ever forgive myself for that,"

"You have to. To move on,"

We heard the door go and saw Mark and Cory coming out "You're Mum's leaving Jen. She's going home to get some sleep," 

"We're coming,"

I went inside and hugged my Mum "Thank you for tonight. I'm so happy for you,"

"Sweetheart I always told you that I'd never leave you,"

"I know Mum,"

Mum drove home and then Emma hugged me "We should get going so we can put the kids down," she mentioned. 

I nodded "Thanks for coming. We've all had a brilliant night,"

Mark then hugged me "Thank you Jennifer for inviting us over. We're lucky to have such good friends,"

Cory hugged Emma and shook Mark's hand. They left with the twins and I looked at Cory "Where's Lea?" I asked.

"Putting Evelyn down. I fed her and then Lea offered to put her down,"

I smiled at Cory "What do you fancy doing?" I asked him. I looked at the clock to see it was 9pm. Cory held my close and kissed me softly "Oh I can think of something,".

He took my upstairs and we spent the night together. We fell asleep around midnight after spending hours together. We were just hoping it wouldn't be long before I got pregnant.
