Unexpected

Chapter 32

Since Mum told me the other day about her having cancer I found it hard to sleep because I was constantly worrying about her and wanting the cancer to be curable because I didn't want to lose her. So far everything the fortune teller had told me in Paris was becoming true. She said some one was going to have some bad news and I might lose them. She also said there was going to be a new addition to the family which was obviously Cory and I having a baby for Lea.

I sat in the nursery watching Evelyn sleep and I was sat in the rocking chair. It was 5am and Mum has her appointment today so I had to go with her to see about when I could get some genetic tests. A part of me was scared because my Grandmother had died from breast cancer and now my Mother had it and there was a possibility I could get it too.

Cory waked into the nursery and I felt him standing behind me and he had his hand on my shoulder "Sweetheart it's 5am come back to bed," he whispered.

"There is no point I can't sleep. You go back to bed I'm fine,"

"I know you're upset about your Mum but today she'll find out if it's curable or not so you don't need to keep worrying,"

"Keep worrying is all I'm going to do. I might have this cancer gene Cory and that means I could get this and I could have passed it on to our daughter,"

"You don't know that. Please come back to bed. I'm really worrid about you,"

"Don't be worrid I'm fine right now, I just need to get through today,"

"I worry about you when you're like this. You haven't eaten properly and you're not sleeping,"

I broke down in tears "I'm so scared Cory," I whispered. Cory came to me and he pulled me into his arms and then he picked me up and I could see us going to our bedroom. He lay me down on the bed and when he lay down I crawled into his arms.

"Don't be scared sweetheart. I've got you," he whispered to me. 

For a while we lay like that until I finally fell asleep in his arms.

When I woke again it was 7am and I sat up in bed and saw Cory still asleep. I got out of bed and took a quick shower and then I got dressed and went to check on Evelyn and she was just waking up. I picked her up and went downstairs to feed her.

Evelyn had her food and then I put her in her high chair with some toys and she played with them. I began cooking breakfast and Lea and Cory came downstairs. Cory came over and wrapped his arms around me from behind "I wish I could be there with you today," he said.

"You've got to work I understand. I'll pop and see you afterwards with what happened,"

"Okay hunny,"

I finished breakfast and put it on the table. I ate half a pancake and then gave up with eating anything else I cooked.

Lea began talking as it was silent in the kitchen/dining area "I've found a job and I go for the interview on Friday,"

"Well done Mum that's brilliant,"

"That's good Lea,"

"Jennifer if you don't mind me saying you look exhausted,"

"I'm fine,"

I got up from the table and washed up the dishes. It was 8:30am and Mum was picking me soon as her hospital appointment was at 9am. I grabbed my coat and put my shoes on and then I saw Mum outside. I walked out the door and Cory caught up with me "Jen!" he called.

I turned around and he kissed me softly "It will be okay," he whispered.

He walked with me to Mum's car and then I got in and we left.

"Mrs Harper please," a lady called out.

I followed Mum into the ladies office. She the looked at me "Is this your daughter?"

"Yes it is," My Mother replied.

"We wanted to speak to you about getting some tests,"

"Mum did mention about the tests,"

"We can do your tests after this if that is okay,"

"Yes that's fine,"

"After you're tests we should get the results this afternoon so I'll give you a call,"

"Thank you,"

"Mrs Harper after the tests we did on you a couple of days ago it shows the cancer is curable. We'll need to shrink the cancer and then we'll have to take you into surgery to remove it if the other therapy we try doesn't get rid of it completely,"

"Thank you Doctor," My Mother said to her.

"Its no probem. If it's okay we'll send you tomorrow for your first course of treatment,"

"That's fine,"

We both left and I went to have my tests done. It was painful but I knew this was something that I needed to do. When the nurse finished I went to Cory's ward. I felt lot happier knowing Mum's cancer could be cured but it was going to be a long process.

I got to Cory's ward and Mum had left because I was going to walk home. Cory saw me and came over "How did it go?"

"It's curable,"

"That's great. When do you have your tests,"

"Just did. I will get the results later,"

He hugged me "Try not to worry okay. I'll be home around 3pm,"

"Okay,"

"I love you,"

"I love you too... so much,"

It was 3pm and Cory was home. I has spent the day playing with Evelyn and Lea and we had a great day but in the back of my mind was the results.

My phone began ringing and I answered it "Hello,"

"Hello am I speaking with Jennifer Harvey?"

"Yes,"

"I've had you're results back after your tests this morning and you haven't got the gene,"

"Thank you,"

"No problem,"

"Bye,"

"Bye,"

I put the phone down and Cory came over to me "I don't have the gene,"

"That's great,"

He picked me up in his arms and spun me round "I love you Cory,"

"I love you too,"

He lent in and kissed me softly as he put me down and wrapped his arms around me. I snaked my arms up his chest and around his neck pulling him closer. He pulled back to breath and I smiled "I should call Mum,"

I rang Mum and she answered "Jen have you had the results?"

"Yes Mum. I haven't got the gene,"

"Thats great news. I'll pop by tomorrow so I can see my Grandaughter,"

"Okay Mum,"

She put the phone down and I looked at Cory "I'm going to Emma's tomorrow for a play date so we can have a catch up. Life as been full on since I last saw her,"

"When did you last see her?"

"I stayed the night with her after I came to your work and got upset,"

"Oh... Sorry,"

"Don't apologise"

"Right my treat tonight I'll buy us all a take out,"
