Unexpected

Chapter 29

The next couple of days had been eventlful. Harry had been coming round asking to see Lea but everytime we had told him she wasn't in, even when she was because Lea really didn't want to see him. She was heartbroken about everything and I never wanted to be in her situation of having to face heartache. I had never really had heartache apart from when I dated that Doctor and he totally screwed me over.

I sat at the table eating breakfast with Cory and Lea. I looked over at Cory and he smiled "You seem distracted," he mentioned to me.

"I'm just thinking,"

"About what?"

"I know that I am entitled to maternity leave but I want to go back to work in a few months,"

"No,"

"Why?"

"Because you should be with Evelyn. Especially after everything,"

"I want to provide an income too,"

"That's my job,"

"We can't just rely on you,"

"You don't need to we're fine,"

"I'm going back to work. End of story,"

I got up and took my dirty dishes to the kitchen and Cory followed me.

"Why is this such a big deal?"

"I want Evelyn to have the best life and with your money and mine coming in she will have that,"

"Why don't trust me to get us through these next few months before your maternity leave is over?"

"I'm not argueing with you anymore,"

"If you leave Evelyn you'l just be a bad Mother,"

"Excuse me!"

"I said you'll be a bad Mother!"

"Then why don't you go to work and earn this money you said you would!"

Cory walked out of the kitchen and left for work and Lea then came in "You alright?"

"Yeah I'm fine,"

"I heard that conversation. He shouldn't have called you a bad Mother,"

"He's stressed about work and being a Father I get that,"

"That is no excuse Jennifer. He should never had said any of that so don't defend him,"

"I'm not. He was out of order,"

Evelyn cried and I knew it was time for her nap after having her breakfast. I picked her up and took her to the nursery and put her to sleep.

After our argument I decided to go and and suprise Cory at work with some lunch. I felt bad honestly because I knew he wanted to be the best Dad and provide for his family unlike his Father had.

I arrived at the hospital and made my way to his ward. When I got there I went over to the lunch room and the door was slightly open. I heard Cory talking to someone. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He was the most honest and kind man I knew and hearing him talking about my private life to some one I had no idea who they were made me feel uneasy. I heard him call me a bad mother which hit me hard.

Some tears rolled down my cheek and the lunch fell from my hands to the floor making a noise. Cory turned to see where the noise came from and saw me "Oh my god Jennifer...," he said running over to me.

As the tears continued to poor I ran from him as fast as I could down to my car. When I got there I fiddled with the keys and he had reached me "That is not what you think. I promise you,"
