Unexpected

Chapter 11

I got to work early this morning so I could talk to my boss about getting to shorter shifts. I was meant to have breakfast with Cory at mine but I needed to see Jackie.

When I got to work I went inside and knocked on my boss's door. She called me in and then smiled "Jennifer... What can I do for you?" she asked.

I sat down and then looked at her "I guess you know I'm pregnant but I've been doing these long shifts like yesterday I did a 12 hour shift and it's taking it's toll on me. I'm beginning to get tired and when I get home all I need to do is get into bed so I was wondering about shortening my hours,"

"That will be fine. Actually I was looking at your file the other day. I see you still have another 10 days holiday left. I thought maybe you might want to use them up and take some time off work?"

"Yeah that doesn't sound such a bad idea,"

"By the time you get back I will have made it so you can have some shorter shifts and then that will be better for you and the baby,"

"Thank you so much. So when do I start my holidays?"

"How about 2 days?"

"That's perfect. Thank you,"

"No problem,"

I left her office and then went to the café to get some breakfast as I hadn't eaten yet and I still had an hour still I started work. When I got to the café I saw Cory in there sat down "What are you doing here?" I asked.

"You haven't checked your phone?"

"No I've just been in with Jackie,"

"I invited you for breakfast. I wanted to spend an hour with my girlfriend,"

"Sounds good,"

As we were having breakfast together I sat down and then looked at him "Jackie said that cutting my hours down would be fine she was going to sort something out as she knows it's important for me to look after the baby and myself. Also she said I had 10 days holiday which needed using so I was thinking about going to see my Mum for a few days,"

"That sounds good. How long will you be gone?"

"Maybe just 5 days,"

"Okay. When do you start your holiday then?"

"2 days time,"

"Wow that's great,"

Cory didn't seem very happy. I didn't think he wanted me to stay here. I understood why he would want me here.

"If you dont want me to go then i'll understand. Number one I'm pregnant with your baby and number two we are going out and it's nice to spend some time together,"

"It's fine. Listen why dont I get some time off and come with you?"

"You will be allowed?"

"I can ask right?"

"Yeah there is no harm in asking,"

"Good I'll ask my boss when I get into work,"

Cory had already ordered our breakfasts so they came and I ate it hungrily. I hadnt eaten since last night and normally I wouldn't be this hungry but being pregnant meant I was. When I finished eating I looked at him "If you cant get time off I'll spend my 10 days here it's fine,"

"No listen go no matter what promise me,"

"Okay I promise," I said reluctantly.

"You'll have a good time with or without me,"
