Now that the others were gone, I myself could leave. All I had to do was get Nichelle to into the shed.
"I told them to try not to kill Quentin and Tara by the way," Nichelle said.
I looked over at her in surprised. "Really, why?"
"First of all, so you could be there to see it and second of all, so we can give them a fair trial."
My jaw dropped open. "You're going to hand the two of them over to the police?"
"What? No. The police won't do anything if we hand them over. Were going to run fair trials ourselves. I would like to anyway. Obviously, if they need to kill Quentin and Tara to survive, then they're allowed to, but their orders are to bring them back alive if they can."
I nodded slowly, but kept my mouth shut for now.
"I just thought you may like that more so you could be there to see them killed."
"Yeah," I shrugged. "I guess so." Too be honest, I didn't. If I didn't go, my friends would still be risking their own lives and apprehending Quentin and Tara without my help. I had a feeling that this little ploy was something for Nichelle to help insure I wouldn't sneak out but it wouldn't work. Whether their supposed to bring Quentin and Tara back alive or not doesn't matter. I'm still going, and nothing anyone says can change my mind.
"Hey, do you think we could do more training?" I asked Nichelle.
"Yeah sure, do you wanna do it right now?"
"If possible," I responded with a shrug, trying to look as casual as I could.
"Okay, you have any idea about what you want to work on?" She asked.
"Actually, yes. Can we go back to the shed and look through there? I may have an idea."
"Sure, why not?" Nichelle led the way to the back of the garage and out to the shed. The shed which locked from the outside. I fingered the key in my pocket. I swallowed hard. I didn't want to have to do this Nichelle, but I couldn't have her calling Ethan or Jacob or Raymond to tell them I had followed them.
I watched as Nichelle slowly stepped into the shed, almost as if she were moving in slow motion, then turned to me.
"Which one do you want?" She asked.
I pointed to a random tool in the shed who's usage I could even remember. As Nichelle turned to grab it from me, I slammed the shed door shut, and quickly locked it.
Not even a second later, I could tell Nichelle was upon the door.
"Emily!" She yelled. She slammer her fist against the door. "Don't do this Emily! Don't go to the compound! Open this door now!"
With my back against the shed door, I squeezed my eyes shut. Was this really something I wanted to be doing? I had a dream last night that if I followed them to the compound, that it'd end badly, but since when do dreams actually come true. They needed my help, and I needed to quit feeling like I was useless.
"Emily!" Nichelle called out.
"I'm sorry!" I yelled back.
I dropped the key next to the shed, leaving Nichelle in the shed. I sprinted back around to the front of the house, and slid into Nichelle's smaller black Tesla. I hunched as low as I could in the car then carefully took the panel off below the steering wheel. As quickly as I could, I pulled out two wires and did exactly as the YouTube video told me to do. I waited for the car to start but nothing happened. I growled softly in frustration and tried again. This time, the car started. I let out a small cry of joy, as I pulled myself back up into the seat. I put my hands on the steering wheel and slowly breathed out.
Very slowly and jerkily, I backed out of the driveway and turned around. I had only actually practiced driving once or twice before but I knew I had to get out of here. I had already locked Nicchelle in the shed, was basically stealing her car and was probably far behind the others at this point. I didn't have time to teach myself to drive. I pressed the gas and bolted off after the van with my friends in it.
When I got to the compound, I pulled in lopsided next to the blue van that carried The Electroclan 2.0 over here. I carefully slipped off my outer clothing, to reveal my own customized black outfit underneath. I knew it wasn't the best but it'd have to do.
I slipped out of the car and jogged around to the back of the building. I quickly found where the others were climbing the fence, given everyone but Ryann and Raymond had climbed over the fence. I crouched low to the ground behind a large rock to wait for them to finish.
Obviously the fact that the fence would be electric again while I was climbing it wouldn't be a problem but the security cameras would be. Ryann was currently looping them to make it look like we weren't here but as soon as they were out of the way, I could guarantee that she would stop.
As soon as everyone was over the fence, and I was sure Jacob had turned the fence back on, I crept out of my bush. Standing a few feet away from the fence, I tapped it quickly just to make sure it wouldn't shock me. It didn't, so I grabbed it. Just like when I was sitting in the electric chair, the only thing the electric fence did was give me more power. Power that flowed through my veins and put me on what felt like a sugar high.
After scaling the fence with little difficulty, I ran to where Axel said the door would be, trying to stay close to the walls so the cameras wouldn't see me.
When I got to the back entrance, Axel was just checking behind the group to make sure no one had seen them when I made it to the door. I breathed out a sigh of relief, glad that Axel hadn't yet shut the door. I knew the door would lock as soon as it was shut, which would mean no getting into it.
The minute Axel disappeared into the building, I ran for the door. I dove just in time to catch it with the tips of my fingers.
I closed the door as far as I could without it locking, and slowly counted down from ten. When I got to zero, I yanked the door open and spun inside. The door slowly closed, locking behind me, and leaving me in a pitch black hallway.
