Both my brothers gasped silently at the same time and I shook my head a bit. That was the crazy thing about twins: they can do things at the same time. It was actually kinda funny to watch sometimes.
I wanted to stay and listen to more of the conversation, even though I was curious as to why Jacob and Ethan gasped, but they got up and motioned for me to follow them. I could tell they wanted to talk so I looked back into the living room for a second then got up and followed them.
As I crept after my brothers, I heard my mom sigh. She said, "so there's still only seventeen?"
But seventeen what? Seventeen glows? Whatever glows meant. I felt like I had heard the phrase before but I couldn't quite remember it's meaning.
I shook my head again in confusion, quietly following Jacob and Ethan as we tip toed back up the stairs.
We made it into their room and Ethan immediately said, "we're going to where ever this Elgen place is."
I looked at him like he had just grown plants out of his ears.
"What?" I asked, wondering if I had heard him wrong.
"We are going to that Elgen compound," Jacob said and he even sounded confident. Which was rare for him. "All three of us have heard mom and dad talk about these guys and we know they're evil. Especially with how they're talking to each other out there. And there's no way they would have changed. People don't just change."
"Yes but we don't have to do anything about it."
"We. Not you," Ethan said.
"What do you mean not me?" I asked furiously.
"You don't have powers Emily. We can't risk some thing happening to you," Ethan explained.
I was about to say something but Jacob cut me off, "And yes, we do have to do something about Elgen. For all we know, mom and dad devoted their lives to fighting these guys, with powers apparently that Ethan and I got when we were born. So the only reason they can't fight anymore is because of us. It's our duty to go and destroy them again, and it's best that we do it before they get too powerful."
"We're telling you so you know that we aren't dead or something but you have to promise not to tell anyone," Ethan added.
"I'll promise. On one condition."
"What is it?" Both of them questioned.
I smirked, "if you take me with you."
Both my brothers froze. I expected them to automatically deny my demand but, surprisingly, they seemed to be debating it.
So I decided to try to convince them. "I want to go with you. I may not have any powers but you could seriously use my help. And I will tell you right now, if you don't take me with you." I placed my hand on the door knob threateningly.
"Don't!" Ethan said then sighed. He looked at Jacob who shrugged. Ethan looked back at me and said, "okay. Fine. You can come."
"Yes," I cheered triumphantly but softly.
Ethan just rolled his eyes.
"Don't get too antsy," he said. "We still have to figure out where the Elgen are and how we can get to them. Plus any background we can find on them would also be helpful."
"Well we both have our drivers licenses so we could just drive there," Jacob suggested.
"We could," I agreed, "except that we don't have a car that we can drive there."
Ethan opened a his mouth, paused, closed it, then said, "let's figure out where they are first then we'll decide on the transportation."
I nodded and Jacob got on his laptop to Google the Elgen. Nothing came up. Absolutely nothing. Not even something from 25 years ago.
"It's gone," Jacob said.
"Gone?" I asked. "The information may have never even been there in the first place."
"Well that was super helpful," Ethan snorted.
"Tell me about it," I muttered and rolled my eyes.
"But if they're trying to come back again, why are they being so secretive?" Jacob asked.
I shrugged. "My question exactly."
We're all quiet for a moment when I suddenly got an idea. "Can I see the computer real quick?" I asked Jacob. He handed it to me. I searched Elgen glows, but that still brought up no helpful results. I also tried searching Elgen electric powers, Elgen electrical company and Elgen shut down to no avail.
I groaned, laying my head on the desk. "This is pointless," I said. "Someone definitely does not want anyone researching this company."
"Are you sure there's nothing else you can try?" Ethan asked.
I thought about it for a moment. "Nothing comes to mi- wait! I might know something." I started typing on the computer again, faster than ever. I remembered Ostin mentioning a guy named Hatch, who seemed to be important to their conversation, so I searched him up. A documentary about a guy named Dr. C.J.Hatch, the CEO of Elgen Inc., came up. I clicked on the link and quickly read through it. It explained that he had died twenty five years ago and that Elgen was shut down after his death. That's about it. Until I got to the bottom of the page.
"Hey guys, look at this." Jacob and Ethan leaned over my shoulder and I pointed to the line.
The only Elgen factory still standing Elgen is located in San Antonio, Texas.
I grinned. "You think that's it?" Texas was a few states away from us and it probably wouldn't be best to drive.
"I think that's it," Jacob answered.
"I'll book a flight," Ethan said. He took the computer from me.
"Using what?" I asked. "Money is typically needed to fly on an airplane," I added sarcastically.
"Mom and dads credit card," he answered. I gave him a disappointed look. Without hesitating a beat, he said, "we'll pay them back when we get home, okay?"
I rubbed my nose but didn't protest. Instead, all I said was, "alright."
About five minutes later, Ethan grinned. "Okay, we leave tomorrow morning."
