We spent our whole day reading and enjoying. I would read out one page and Amarion would read out the other. He would gaze at me and how I reacted to each sentence. He paid no attention to the stories because all his concentration was on me. I could see him watching me by the corner of my eyes yet I would continue reading because I secretly loved it. And when it would be his turn to read, he would read the sad parts quickly but when there would be a romantic scenario he'd read every word separately until I'd have the imagination of it. With us of course. After every four pages, he would give me a random kiss. In the library of fairytales and fiction, we were writing our own story.
I collected each petal that lay on the floor and placed them in the empty chocolate box. I even kept the scented candles in it. Amarion gazed at me reluctantly. I told him that it was my treasure, the best surprise I had ever received. He smiled at me, perhaps wondering how crazy I was. But who said love is sane?
We left the library when we heard someone unlocking the door.
"What about the heart of books?" I asked Amarion anxiously.
"I know everyone would like it" he winked at me and headed to the living room.
I rolled my eyes. He too could be enigmatic at times.
"You have a key?" I heard Amarion yell.
"Yeah, I took it in case you both decide to hook up" Jade retorted as I arrived in the living room
My jaw dropped at those two words 'hook up'. I stared at her in shock and Amarion too gaped his eyes.
"What did you just say?" Amarion questioned through gritted teeth.
"Exactly what you heard" she smirked.
"That you two may hook up" she repeated while gazing at me.
I looked at Amarion who appeared angry and hurt. Why was he hurt?
"Keep that filthy mouth of yours shut" he yelled angrily at Jade.
"Or else you'd regret" he continued while pointing a finger at her.
I knew that anger wasn't for what Jade had said but for something that it reminded. She did say more than she should but he wouldn't react the way he did if the thing that was bothering him didn't exist. We found it shocking because we didn't do it but it was normal for other couples. And it was suppose to be a joke or maybe even the truth but I was unsure of his reaction. Was he hiding something?
"Amarion it's okay. She was just kidding" I said and walked to him.
"But she" he began to speak but I spoke in between.
"She must have thought that we" I said and looked away.
"Couples do that" I continued. It was too difficult to say that as if the words were stuck in my throat. I looked at Amarion and there was sadness in them.
And the worst thing was that I didn't know the cause of it and I couldn't even ask him due to Jade's presence.
"Whatever" he replied and broke our brief eye contact.
"Woah! You guys haven't" Jade exclaimed and I could see Amarion clenching his jaw.
"Jade" I said in a low voice and gave her a gaze.
"I mean it is normal" she stuttered and crossed her arms on her chest.
"But" as I began speaking, Amarion walked towards the staircase in aggression. He quickly ascended the stairs. I watched as he left us behind. He closed the door of his room with a loud thud.
"When you know he wasn't liking it, why did you say that again?" I shouted at Jade.
"You blame me too" she replied and shrugged her shoulders.
"He was happy Jade, very happy" I looked at her.
"But you took it away" I said and went to the kitchen.
The table was still a mess, so I began cleaning it. Jade stepped in and muttered an apology.
"Say that to your brother" I retorted.
"I will" she replied, surprising me.
"Good" I murmured.
"But why are you here cleaning the table and not consoling him?" She asked me.
"He needs some time alone" I replied after pausing for a moment.
"He never reacts that way" Jade said.
"I know" I pursed my lips. There was something bothering him and I had to find it out.
"By the way, why is mom not home yet? " she asked out of the blues.
"I don't know. Try calling her" I replied. I wondered where she had gone for so long.
"Yeah" Jade pulled out her phone from her pocket.
The sound of the ringing bell reached my ears.
"Oh, she is home" Jade replied and went to open the door.
Julian had shopping bags in her hands and she seemed very excited. She smiled at me and placed the bags on the counter. I was introduced to everything that she had bought. Jade watched us from the distance. It gave me the feeling of being her daughter and Jade being the guest.
After a long conversation, the three of us returned to our rooms. Jade somehow apologised to Amarion and returned in a trice. I hadn't seen him since the afternoon and I felt worried. Lily took me to her room as soon she came from school. I spent my time till lunch there. But Amarion wasn't at the dining table. When Lily asked, Julain said that he wasn't hungry. I started to feel more worried and unfortunately I couldn't even talk to him. He made me so happy in the morning and by evening he was locked up in his room, sad. I felt my heart dropping. I could barely eat the lunch. Till dinner, my time was consumed by Lily and Julian. I tried finding ways to see him but couldn't endeavour. Finally, at night after dinner when Amarion still hadn't shown up, I decided to go into his room because I had waited enough.
I lowered the handle of the door and peeped in.
He wasn't in his room.
