He was asleep peacefully. There were no traces of worry on his handsome face. I could spend the whole night grooming his hair and watch him dream. But I had to find some answers. I gradually rested his head on the pillow and carefully got off the bed as to not wake him up. I planted a gentle kiss on his forehead and headed for the door. I looked at him one last time and switched off the lights.
Why was Jade so rude to Amarion? No matter how much my angel did for her, it wasn't enough. She would be sweet for a while and then back to herself. Was that who Jade was? Or was there something else? I couldn't come to a conclusion and if there was any way I could diminish my love's worries it was to mend his relationship with his sister.
With questions in my mind, I stepped inside Lily's room. Julian was kissing her good night and she smiled when she saw me.
We walked out of the room and moved in silence until we reached the kitchen.
"I guess you want to talk?" she asked with softness in her eyes.
"Yes" I replied, unsure of where to begin.
She poured two glasses of cold mango juice and placed it on the counter in front of the stool I was sitting on. I murmured a 'thank you'. As I took a sip, my throat felt cool and my mind was free of the steam. I sighed deeply and looked at Julian who was sitting on the stool next to me. She looked at me, waiting for me to speak as she had her drink.
"I am worried for Amarion. I know, this must sound very awkward that I am speaking about the concern I have to the mother of the person but I think you know him the best" I rambled and her lips broke into a smile.
"I am glad that you're concerned for my son. I always knew that he needed more love, mine or our family's wasn't enough" she answered fain.
I nodded and brought all of my thoughts together.
"Have Amarion and Jade always been this way?" I questioned and a sorrowful expression formed on her face.
"Of course not" she replied regretfully.
"They were so close and protective for each other. They were best friends" she continued.
"And what caused them to change so much?" I asked while looking at her.
She ran her finger on the brim of the tumbler and remained silent for a while.
"Amarion didn't change, Jade did" she replied while looking away.
"Why?" I questioned and Amarion's words reverberated in my mind, "you ask a lot of questions".
"It is a story none of us likes to recall" she answered and I felt sorry.
"It is okay, I didn't mean to pry. I just wanted to help" I said but she spoke out in between.
"You deserve to know" she smiled weakly, sadness reflected in her eyes.
I just nodded, hoping that it would help me resolve Amarion's problem.
"There was this girl, Maria" she started and my heart skipped a beat.
"She was Jade's best friend. She was her classmate since grade six. Jade would bring her home every two or three days. The girl was sweet and normal just like Jade was but" she stopped and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"But?" I asked as I witnessed the change in her tone.
"There was one thing strange about her. She would be fascinated with literally anything and neither her parents nor did I ever thought that her fascination could also be towards wrong things" Julian stated with remorse.
