Dean:
Damned juke box. These things were awesome, but they never worked. So Khalilah fixed it for me, which was why I loved her, her ability to make absolutely anything.
"No, no, no, you're right, it's definitely weird." Sammy was saying into his phone as Kali forked some pie into my mouth. Perfect. "...Okay, Bobby, thanks."
Kali climbed over the chair next to him, grinning adorably. "What's up?"
My brother didn't look up, already researching on his laptop. "Bobby found something in Wyoming."
Awesome, about time. "A job?"
"Maybe." He replied as I started on my own burger, Kali still eating her pie. She loved that much shit about as much as I did. "Small town, no one's died in the past week and a half."
"That so unusual?" Khalilah questioned, not understanding how death worked. She might by innocent minded, but she should understand that concept.
Sammy just gave her a look. He didn't quite believe her innocent act all the time, but she really couldn't help it. "Well, it's how they're not dying. One guy with terminal cancer strolls right out of hospice. Another guy gets capped by a mugger and walks away without a scratch."
Kali frowned a little, her lovely blue eyes confused. "Capped in the ass?"
He shook his head. "Police say Mr. Jenkins was shot in the heart at point-blank range by a nine-millimeter."
"And he's not a doughnut?" I asked with my mouth full of burger, making my girlfriend slap me upside the head. What?
"Locals are saying it's a miracle." Great, more miracle worshipers. "It's got to be something nasty, right? I mean, people making deals or something."
I considered this for a moment. "You think?"
"What else would it be?" Kali asked, sucking on her spoon. My sweet little ray of sunshine eating cherry pie. What could be more perfect?
I shook my head. "I don't know."
"All right."
So my brother put his laptop back into his bag, pointing to my burger. "Get that to go." Uh really? Do I have to? "Come on." Nah, I'm good right here, and Khalilah wouldn't go if I wasn't there. Because she heard everything he said, and she was a little wary of him as well. "What?"
Her eyes narrowed at him. "Sure you want us going with you? I mean, I'm just the piece of meat on your brothers arm, no better than a shield if he was being shot at, and Dean's just holding you back."
"Dude, Kali, I've told you both a hundred times, that was the siren talking, not me." Sammy told us as I wiped some syrup off her chin. "Can we get past this? Kali, you've saved my ass countless times, for crying out loud."
Good enough for me. I put down the burger, brushing off my hands as we got to our feet, Kali in a faded leather jacket a few sizes too big. "Yeah, we're past it."
The next day we were in Wyoming, Greybull, talking to the guy who'd been shot. Pretty sprightly for it, too. "Now, you three said you were bloggers?" He asked as we say at his table, able to see his wife and daughters in the next room.
"Yes, sir. Floored by the Lord dot com." Sam agreed, Kali looking a little lost by what the term blogger meant. She didn't do much in regards of computers but hacking into things that not even Sam could get into.
I gave a broad smile. "All of God's glory fit to blog."
Khalilah's polite English Villains voice was unsure in what she said next, holding my hand tight. "Um. Some of the people around town are saying what happened to you was a miracle."
