This? This was not going to end well. Sam was just a little sauced, with some foul smelling alcohol that I refused to drink as I stood with Dean, watching him make bets on a pool game he was playing. "Brian, come on, man, just one more. Just -- just give me a chance to win it back."
"It's your cash."
Dean intervened, keeping hold of my hand as he moved closer. "Excuse me. My brother's a little sauced to be making bets."
Brian just shrugged. "He insisted."
Seriously? Back off dude. "Yeah, but you've already taken, what, two bills off him? I'm just saying."
"Hey, shut up, Kali. I'm fine."
There was no way in hell that you were alright, Sam, anyone could see that. "No, you're not fine. You're drunk!"
"Let's make it five hundred."
His brother stared at him. "Five hundred?"
"Sure." No, not sure, they didn't have much money in the first place, jackass! But Sam just put the money onto the side of the pool table. Great, there goes the last of the money I could take out of the bank with the card. "Five hundred. Your break."
While Brian was looking down, Sam raises his eyebrows at us, and for a second there was no trace of drunkenness. He was playing him, doing a con. He broke, sinking several balls, then looked across the bar to see a woman there. "Keep the money." Then put down the queue to walk towards her. Seriously?!
"Keep the money? What --" His brother gabbled, before pulling me across the room with him, looking at the woman in annoyance. "Well, you got a lot of nerve showing up anywhere near me." Who was she?
"I just have some info, and then I'm gone." I didn't trust you already, you were obviously a demon with those black eyes.
Sam stopped Dean from saying something else. "What is it?"
"I'm hearing a few whispers."
I rolled my eyes as Deany pulled me a little closer to him. We'd been close, ever since that day in the woods. Not intimate, just... close. "Ooh, great, demon whisperers -- that's reliable."
The woman kept talking though. "Girl named Anna Milton escaped from a locked ward yesterday. The demons seem pretty keen on finding her. Apparently, some real heavy hitters turned out for the Easter-egg hunt."
Ok... "Why? Who is she?"
"No idea." So it was really helpful, obviously. "But I'm thinking that she's important, 'cause the order is to capture her alive. I just figured that whatever the deal is, you might want to find this girl before the demons do."
"Look, maybe we should check it out."
Dean shook his head. "Actually, we're working a case, but thanks." We were? Since when?
"What case?"
"Uh, we've got leads, big leads." Ah, you were lying...
The woman's eyes narrowed a little "Sounds dangerous. Sure you want this little girly with you?"
"I'm not a little girl, I'm Kali. Kali Forbes, nice to meet you."
She shook my hand, before I dropped it like a snake. "Ruby."
"Yeah, well, it sure ain't goose-chasing after some chick who, for all we know, doesn't even exist, just because you say she's important." Dean told her after, his hand softly on my waist.
Ruby held her hands up in surrender. "I'm just delivering the news. You can do whatever you want with it. Far as I'm concerned, I told you, I'm done."
