Dean:
Man, I was still doing the dad stuff even with my daughter gone. To shut Sam up, my brother who was expecting a baby with his girlfriend, and had taken over the last free room in the Bunker, I said I'd do the ironing. "Oh, perfect. We're gonna need our suits. Ria's coming with, she wants to get some air."
"Tell me you got something on Amara." And therefore my wife and her brothers vessel.
He made a face. "Uh, it's a long shot, but the clock's ticking, right? Whatever Amara's doing to Lucifer, and if she's turned Kali dark."
Lucifer wasn't the one I was worried about. "Yeah. Beating on Cas in the meantime."
Then I was handed Khalilah's tablet, battered and bruised, but still the same one from when I first met her 8 years previous. 19 years old, and it was like she was still a kid, not even knowing how love felt, to be in love with someone. "Yeah. Uh, Hope Springs, Idaho. A guy named Wes Cooper killed himself after killing a co-worker. According to the reports, though, nobody knows why. Apparently he was a perfectly happy guy, and then... snap."
Didn't necessarily mean anything. "So, what? Possession?"
"Or he was soulless." Ria smiled, walking into the room with one of Khalilah's old dresses on, from when she'd been hiding her pregnancy from me.
"It ain't much, but given what we got, I'll take it." Then handed the tablet back to him, and then I gave him his shirt and walked away. "There you go."
"Thanks." Then sniffed it as I tried to stifle a laugh. Teach you to make me the laundry slave. "Dude, quit ironing my shirts with beer!!"
We headed over to Hope Springs, and while Ria walked around town, scoping things out herself, before we went to talk to the cops. "Appreciate the FBI taking an interest in this case. We don't really see things like this around here."
Another girl on desk spoke up as we stood in the office. "Hey, you mind if I knock off, Sheriff?"
"Let me guess— Art's back? Newlyweds." I laughed a little, remembering all the time Kali and I spent together afterwards. "You can go home after you show Agent Greer the M.E. files."
She smiled brightly. "Thank you, sir."
"Thanks." And Sam, or Agent Greer, went to get the files from her.
"What do you have on Wes Cooper?" I asked him, taking a few notes. That had been Kali's job, in that incredible swirling writing from her grandparents planet.
He shrugged a little. "I talked to his friends, family. Nobody can make heads or tails on why he did this. We have a witness who overheard Wes before he took his own life. He was saying things that sounded out of character."
Sounded a little Soulless really. "Yeah? How so?"
"Wes said that his life was meaningless, nobody loved him. It was like every negative thought he had ever had came spilling out. The thing is..."
The other officer spoke up again now. "I knew Wes' wife. We sang in choir together. She loved Wes till the day she died. I don't know why he'd say anything like that. And then there's this."
And now Sammy got our attention, looking at the file. "Hold on a second. I've actually seen something like that before. Deputy, tell me, have you noticed any strange phenomena around town? Uh, sulfur smells or power outages? Maybe an unexplained fog?"
She shook her head, looking at a little confused. "No, sir. It's always sunny in Hope Springs. At least, it used to be."
We got what we wanted and went back to the motel, seeing Ria carving something in wood. Was there anything that she couldn't do? But then we were called out in the middle of the night. And Ria insisted on coming with. "Sorry I woke you boys. Oh, and you miss, but im afraid you'll have to wait with the car."
