Kali:
"Uh... can I help you?"
I smiled sweetly, holding out the psychic paper that grumps probably hadn't been happy with me taking as the boys took out their fake IDs. Mine was better, and Sam had questioned the way it was easy enough for me to be literally anyone. "Sure hope so. Agents Forbes, DeYoung and Shaw. Just need to ask you a few questions."
"Notice anything strange in the building, last couple of days?" Sammy asked as I felt Dean subtly put his hand on my waist. Oh, that felt amazing... Even with my skin far too white now, from the bleach bath, his skin on mine made me feel like everything was normal about me.
"Like what?"
My boyfriend kept pushing. "Well, some other tenants reported flickering lights."
The guy behind the counter frowned a little. "Uh, I don't think so. Why?"
"What about noises?" I asked softly. "Any skittering in the walls? Kind of like rats?"
Which really got him confused. "And the FBI is investigating a rodent problem?"
Because it was a listed council building and people could have smuggled them? Maybe? "What about cold spots? Feel any sudden drops in temperature?"
He started to grin at us. "I knew it! You guys are LARPing, aren't you?"
Eh? "Excuse me?" Dean asked, his grip on my waist tightening.
"You're fans."
"Fans of what?" Sam questioned.
There was something else there too, Sam. "What is "LARPing"?"
"Like you don't know." No, we really didn't. "Live-Action Role-Play! And pretty hardcore, too."
Deany blinked at him. "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about."
"You're asking questions like the building's haunted. Like those guys and the girl from the books. What are they called? Uh... "Supernatural." Two guys, use fake IDs with rock aliases, the switch across to the girl, training in the TARDIS', to be the new Sentinel, hunt down ghosts, demons, vampires, even a few aliens. What are their names? Uh... Steve and Dirk? Uh, Sal and Dane?"
"Sam and Dean?"
"That's it! And what's the girls name, uh, Khalifa?"
Oh, you were about to get bitten, mate. "Khalilah." He nodded at me as I tried to control the veins I had under my eyes that seemed to be tied to my anger and frustration. I wore a lot of foundation to try and cover them. "You're saying this is a book?"
The dude nodded again. "Books. It was a series. Didn't sell a lot of copies, though. Kind of had more of an underground cult following." He went over to a table labelled "Bargain Bin". "Let's see. Um... Ah. Yeah." He handed it to Deany. "That's the first one, I think."
Wait... Oh, my God. It was the book! The one that got this whole fucking thing started! If we hadn't have gotten these, I'd never have known where I was supposed to go! ""Supernatural" by Carver Edlund." Dean started to read the back cover. ""Along a lonely California highway, a mysterious woman in white lures men to their deaths.""
Sam grabbed the book and stared at it. I never knew I was in them, only my parents read them, because it was my future. "Give me that."
I looked at the man, getting out my actual credit card, usable in every galaxy that didn't use none credit money. "We're gonna need all the copies of "Supernatural" you've got."
