It's only a short one, mostly because it's not got much I can do with it. But, it's happy :) Izzi xxx
Birdy:
"You ready?"
I looked at Mary, my bridesmaid and Ashildr, my maid of honour. Jenny didn't want to be, her own baby bump too big for the dress. My first nephew, Alistair. "Y, yes. Yes, I'm ready, I'm so, so ready..."
They both nodded, taking up places in front of me as I picked up my bouquet of blue roses, my hair pinned off my face as a soft song started to play, a recording of Sherlock's violin music. They started to walk and I followed a moment later, into the little room that we'd booked for the ceremony, and I started to walk down the aisle, very few people there.
I had very little family left, none really that were alive or accessible on Earth, which was why Jack and Suzy we're here, they were off world, hiding from British Government. Sherlock's family, including Mycroft that I was struggling with, but I was getting there. Then we had my brother, stood with Luke, and his now wife Jenny, pregnant with their first. John was stood next to Sherlock, best man, holding Khalilah, squirming in her little dress. My near 3 year old.
And in the corner, holding a small bunch of matching blue roses, was an Angel, and actual, Angel. Arianna Tate, my aunt. Closest I had to dad. And stood at the top, was Kate Stewart, which was rather hard given her arch nemesis was sat in the front row with his parents. She was the registrar, only one qualified.
Oh, he was already up there, my Sherlock, standing perfectly... He was just perfect in every way. "Hello, my Birdy."
"Hello, my Sherlock." I smiled back at him, taking his hands as Ash took my flowers. "You look... Incredible..."
"Says you. You're so much greater..." He replied as the music stopped and we looked to Kate. I was getting married...
Kate cleared her throat and started the ceremony. "Dear friends and family, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the union of William Sherlock Scott Holmes and Sarah Jane Clara 'Birdy' Tate in marriage. In the years they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife, and mother and father to their beautiful daughter Khalilah Melody Holmes.
"Sherlock and Birdy, remember to treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together. Take responsibility for making the other feel safe, and give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves. When frustration, difficulty and fear assail your relationship, as they threaten all relationships at some time or another, remember to focus on what is right between you, Khalilah, your home, your cat, not just the part that seems wrong, not that I can see anything ever going wrong in this partnership. In this way, you can survive the times when clouds drift across the face of the sun in your lives, remembering that, just because you may lose sight of it for a moment, does not mean the sun has gone away, or that the universe, again, has imploded. And, if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight."
The woman took a breath, paused for a moment, then continued. "Seek from within yourselves, the serenity to accept the things you cannot change. The courage to change the things that you must, and the wisdom to know the difference. Live each day, one day at a time, enjoying your time together, one moment at a time. Seek the wisdom of experience, learning all that you can from each other. Accept hardships as the building blocks of experience. Realizing that accepting both the good and bad are simply a part of being alive. Strive to make as many things right as is humanly possible in your life together with that perfect little girl. That you may be reasonably happy in the life you share from this day forward. The bride and groom have both written their own vows, so Sherlock, can you please start."
