Dean:
Never, ever sleep in the Impala. Especially not with Kali the hot water bottle. Sam was brushing his teeth outside the car, and I tried to get out, but we both ended up falling nearly as Kali woke up too, her eyes silver as she bared fangs and black veins under her eyes. "Hey. How'd you sleep?"
"How do you think? I'm starving. Let's get breakfast. Unless you want to be my breakfast." Ah, the lovely morning person that was Khalilah Melody Holmes.
Sam frowned at her. "Where? We're like two hours from anything. Eat your jerky."
She scowled him, her pretty pale face showing veins. "Ate it last night. We're hungry now."
"There's probably still a sandwich in the back seat."
I turned, rubbing a hand over my face as I grabbed the paper bag, sniffed, then made a face. Great. "It's tuna." Then a phone rang, and Kali started to dig through the glove compartment to find it, thne I grabbed it, hitting my head on my exit of the Impala.
My brother got my worry right away. "Isn't that Dad's phone?"
"Hello?"
"Uh, is this John?"
Who hell hell wanted to know? "He can't come to the phone. Can I help you?"
The guy, sounding about Kali's age, around 20. "No no no—I really—I need to talk to John. This is Adam Milligan. He knows me."
Didn't really care. "Well, sorry to be the one to break this to you, pal, but John died more than two years ago." The kid sounded shocked. "Who is this?"
"I'm his son." You were shitting me.
SUPERWHOLOCK
Sammy was still trying to convince me that this kid could be legit when we reached themeeting point. "Dean, look, best I can tell, Adam Milligan is real." I unlocked the trunk, then the weapons box as Kali folded down her staff, and stuffed it into her heeled boot. "Um, born September twenty-ninth, 1990" So he was even younger than Khalilah, "to Kate Milligan. No father listed on the birth certificate. He's an Eagle Scout. Graduated from high school with honors and currently goes to the University of Wisconsin—biology major, pre-med." I just closed it all as Kali gave me a quick kiss. Couldn't do this without her. "Dean, Khalilah? You listening?"
Yes, I was. "This is a trap."
I closed the trunk and went past him, Kali holding my hand tight. The door to the diner opened with a tinkle and I headed for a table with 5 chairs around it, letting my girlfriend go first so if it was, I could get her out through the window. "Dean, I'm telling you, the kid checks out."
"Great, so he's an actual person on the planet Earth." I told him firmly. "Sucks he's got a demon in him."
A waitress came over and handed us menus and glasses of water. "Hi. Welcome to Cousin Oliver's. Can I—"
Kali sent her a dark look. "We're actually waiting on somebody."
Annoyed, she slapped down a menu in front of each of us. "Thank you—"
I poured the water into the potted plant, and put it between my legs as I unscrewed the top of my flask. "Holy water?"
Kali nodded, her eyes silver as she carefully pulled out a magnetic cloth, and put it under the table. Devil's Trap in her home tongue, almost as strong as an Angels one. "Yup." I filled it carefully. "One sip of Jesus juice, this evil bitch is gonna be in a world of hurt."
The waitress walked past again, and I put the glass back, and took out a package of silver utensils. "And what if he's not possessed?"
Kali shrugged, her long blue and blonde hair curled around her face. I loved her hair, always smelt like strawberries. "Then he is a shapeshifter."
