Chapter 3: Where Are Your Parents?

Next Day, 1st Period

"Okay class, I have some announcements," Chad said, walking to the front of the classroom. When he spoke, everyone stopped their actions, and turned to face him like he was a dictator or something. "I have just gotten an approval for a field trip. I haven't picked a date yet but when I have, I will let you know." He walked over to his desk and picked up a stack of blue paper. "Until then, you will have to get these permission forms filled out and signed by a legal guardian and God does not count... Jimmy."

"He is my maker." Jimmy said, high fiving a near by friend.

"Not on paper. Lilly?" He gestured the form my way.

Standing from my seat, I took the papers from his hands and our fingers briefly touched, sending bolts of electricity through my body. How does he do that? His existent already made me weak and now his touch seemed so deadly and toxic.

As I passed out the forms to the class, I couldn't help but think on how I was going to get this signed. I no longer lived with my parents and Max's were never home. Maybe I didn't need to get it signed, I was eighteen after all.

I gave the surplus forms to Chad and then took my seat with my permission form.

"Also, you can now buy the 'Under the Stars' dance tickets during lunch and after school at the Gym. The admission is fifteen now and twenty if you pay at the door. I will be chaperoning so no funny business because no matter how cool we are, I will snitch." he snickered.

A couple of 'awe mans' and 'woos' made their way across the room. I kept my thoughts to myself like how I now really wanted to go since he was. Dances weren't really my thing since the only dance moves I had were the electric slide and the chicken dance (barely) but this seemed like it could actually be fun.

Chad picked up an expo marker and began writing the word 'slogan' on the board.

"The dance committee are looking for a slogan to write on the banner that enforces the dress code which is very formal and sophisticated. Who ever write the best one will have it written on a banner so everyone at the dance can see." He announced with that smooth voice of his.

Slogans? He has us doing the work that the committee was too brainless to do themselves? How nice.

I better get extra credit for this.

Taking out a fresh piece of paper and a sharpened pencil, I began to brainstorm. Something that shows sophistication, hmm... When I think of sophisticated and formal, I think of the red carpet of an award show. Stars come out in their best duds and pose as the photographers capture the definition of elegance. I wrote on my paper: Dress Like the Stars While Dancing Under Them in cursive. It was pretty simple then again, this was a simple high school dance.

I raised my hand high up and waved it side to side so I could catch his attention.

"Question Lilly?" he asked, triggering me to put down my hand.

"Yeah. Is this going to be counted as a grade?"

"Hmm..." he rubbed is chin, thinking about my question. "Why not. You'll all get an A just for trying."

Cheers erupted in the class causing me to smile. Making everyone happy made me happy.

.........

Sitting at the table as I played with my chicken salad with a fork, I decided to ask Max about the dance. I did need a date even though in a perfect universe I would want to be with Chad. "So a dance is coming up and I was wondering..."
