Look On The Bright Side

Dalton's POV

"Wake up. We are here." I hear someone say while I feel someone shaking me.

I open my eyes to see Kaiden waking me up. I rub the sleep from my eyes and hangout. Colt and Maddix helps us to the sidewalk and set us down once we get inside the "safe place". It's so clean and untouched. Like its almost normal. It's weird.

Jake went inside the house that was behind me. A few minutes later, more and more people started to show up and surround us. I look at Kaiden to see her head down. I look up to see everyone and Kaiden popped her head up as soon as she heard someone speak.

"Dalton?" I hear Max say, sounding shocked.

"Kaiden?!" Hunter yells and ran over to her and cradles her.

"What happened to them?" A girl asked.

I've heard people whisper something like that ever since we got here.

"Roma, Cassidy, Kelsey, Leslie, come inside with me. Hunter and Max get them inside. Maddix come tell me what happened. Jake and Colt go fix a house up for these two. Everyone else can go back to whatever you all were doing. They will be okay. I will update you all on how they are doing." A women says.

They do as they were told and before you know it, we were inside the house. They immediately start working on us and cleaning us up. We looked better than we did once we got out of the shower and put on some clean clothes. They gave he food and water. Which the water, I gulped down, but I nibbled on the food because I was in no mood to eat. Kaiden didn't touch it at all. She is already sickly skinny enough and im worried about her health.

"If you don't mind me, I would like to ask you some questions?" The girl asked. "I'm the leader of this place. My name is Amara."

She looks to young to be the leader, but okay.

"What's your name and age?" She asked while she grabbed a pen and a clipboard.

"I'm Dalton and in 19." I speak.

I look at Kaiden to say something, but she doesn't so I speak for her.

"This is my sister Kaiden. She is 16."

"Okay. Have ugh been bitten, scratched, or possibly sick?" She asked.

I just shake my head no. She gives glances at Kaiden and writes stuff down and looks back up at us.

"Have you ever killed someone that was living? Being bitten or scratch doesn't count."

"No. They were only rotters and my girlfriend was bitten." I say thinking about Sonika.

I miss her so much. She would've like this place. We could've been together forever here.

"What about you Kaiden?" She asked looking directly at her.

I look at Kaiden and see that she is wide eyed. I know she has killed people with dad, but what is she going to say. She has to tell them the truth.

"Answer the question Kaiden." Amara says sternly.

Kaiden's POV

"Have you ever killed someone that was living? Being bitten or scratched doesn't count."

I don't know what to say. I have, but what if I tell them that and they won't let me stay, or they kill me.

Flashback:

I hold it to Brooke's head. She just stares at me silently pleading me not to, with her eyes.

I don't hesitate to pull the trigger. Its for the best anyway. When the loud noise rings through the air, all I hear is gasp from behind me.
