That night was one of the longest night's Malachi had in his entire life and he found that it was almost impossible to sleep through it. Part of him was incredibly hopeful that Aaron and Aphmau would keep their promise but the rest of him had gotten so used to being let down and abandoned that he was used to it.

Still though, the little bit of hope that managed to survive was more than what he had felt in years.

Malachi sighed, climbing out of his bed as he walked to the window and looked out it, having a pretty good view of Phoenix Drop from his sixth floor Hospital Room. He could see all of Main Street, could see the new park, and could see the old one. So of course he was used to seeing people come and go out of the hospital, most of which not even noticing the resident of the hospital that was unable to leave unless somebody was able and willing to take him out of this place.

That was something he wanted more than anything. It was to have a home all to himself, a home that he would be able to go to everyday. A home where he could expect hugs and kisses, a warm bed that he come claim his own, walls he could paint any color he pleased, but out of everything, what he really wanted was a family. A mom and dad who loved each other and loved him for him, even with his heart the way it was. Anything was better than being in a hospital every moment of everyday with only nurses to talk to. Nurses who hardly tried to know him because he only had half a heart, and honestly had no faith that he was going to live to see his 10th birthday. They weren't even going to try and get close to him, after all, what was the point of getting close to something who could die without warning.

But... Aphmau and Aaron, they really did seem to care. They seemed to want to get to know him, despite knowing about his condition. They seemed to care and want to get close to him. It was a nice feeling, a feeling which Malachi was beginning to doubt was fake. They had promised to come back tomorrow. His mom used to say that breaking promises meant bad luck for the rest of one's life, and he hoped that Aphmau and Aaron had heard the same thing. At least that way there was more of a chance that he would see them again.

And he did. For the next three days Aphmau and Aaron came by to see him everyday around lunch time, each time the came back they would bring gifts with them; giving him quite the collection of stuffed animals, coloring books, magazines, and normal reading books that he could enjoy whenever he wanted to. It was nice - no - it was more than nice. It was amazing.

"What of you think of the name Jess?" Aphmau asked.

Malachi scrunched his nose, "I already told you, Aphmau the baby is a boy."

"Jess can be a boy or girl name." Aaron laughed.

"I guess, but I don't like it. I like the name Levin."

"Levin?" Wondered Aphmau.

"Yeah!" Malachi smiled, "It means Lion."

"What if it is a girl after all?" Aaron chuckled.

"Hm... Zoey."

"Those are both very good names, Malachi." Aphmau grinned.

Malachi smiled, a real smile which is something he had been doing a lot since Aphmau and Aaron came to see him. He didn't feel as alone with Aphmau and Aaron seeing him everyday. But he knew that the moment their friend was no longer in the hospital they wouldn't come and see him anymore, and that he would be all alone again.

Being alone scared him.
