I walk over to a jacket and pick it up I look down at the table in front of me, I see that something fell out of the jacket. I pick it up and I see a date "September 6th 2006" I flip the paper over and see a picture of me and my brother on our first day of school, I was in preschool and he was in first grade. We were wearing uniforms because we went to a really expensive private school. I smile and put it in my pocket. I go and turn around and run into max.
" oh sorry didn't see you there" Max says putting his hand out to help me up.
" it was my fault, don't worry about it " I say grabbing his hand laughing. I grab my katana and my pistol as I watch the others leave the house. I step outside and I feel the cold breeze hit my face. I close the door behind me and catch up to the others. I run up to Tanner and start walking at his pace.
"So what's the plan Stan?"
" well we have pretty much looted this city so we are going out on a long journey to another one"
I nod and look forward, motionless bodies lay on the ground as we walk around cars and buildings until we finally make it out of the city. I look over at Tanner as he pulls out a map, not far from where we were was another city maybe 6 or 7 miles. He puts the map away and grabs his gun, he stops and looks over at me.
"Can you climb a tree and tell us what is ahead before we go much farther"
"Sure thing" I say walking over to a tree and start climbing up it. Once I get up to the top I look around, I see nothing but more trees and a few hills.
"I think we are ok I don't see much" I say jumping back down.
"Alright then let's keep going"
We continue to walk for another 4 miles when I hear something up front. I stop and pull out my sword as the others stand behind me, I walk forward when I see 4 zombies eating on a deer. I get up behind them and cut the heads off of 2 zombies. The other 2 look up at me and stand up. Tanner and Hannah come up and stab them in the heads and drop them on the floor.
A few hours pass after killing groups of zombies here and there. The sun starts to set so we set up camp. Sam makes a fire while Hannah and I set up a line with cans around the group. Once we finish setting up the sun was down and the moon was up. We sat around the fire in silence as we ate some food we had brought with us. Soon Sam fell asleep then Hannah. I sat next to the fire staring at it before I realized I was the last one awake. I look around at the others then back at the fire. Sparks flew off and the smoke went up into the night sky as the full moon looked down at me. I grab a stick and poke the fire to keep it going.
An hour goes by and I look up at the sky again, I lay down and stare up until I finally fall asleep. In the morning Tanner wakes me up and we go back out. We soon find a road and follow it until we get to the city. The buildings short and there were a lot of homes. As we are walking down the road we stop and split up to scavenge the homes. 4 hours pass and we all meet up at the road.
"What all did you guys find" Tanner asks putting his bag down.
" We found a lot of canned food and that was pretty much it" Max and Hannah say holding up food.
" Me, Sam and Leo found the same thing but we also found some knives " I say picking up a knife and throwing it at a tree behind Tanner.
"No need to show off Chels" he says laughing
"Fine ok, well what did you guys find" a few packs of ammo and some protein bars" he says giving us all some of the bars.
"Well are we going to look through more cities or do you think we have enough for now" Sam asks as she eats.
" I think we should still go out and find more supplies. How much room do you guys have in your bags?" We all look in our bags for a few seconds before Hannah speaks.
" we can still hold some more stuff is that what you want to do?"
"I think it would be a good idea " I say looking at them shrugging my shoulders. We all stand there for a second as we get ready to walk some more. I stop what I'm doing and look up at the others, then around us.
"What's wrong Chelsi?" Sam asks looking at me with a concerned face.
" do you guys find it weird that we haven't see any zombies ever since we got here"
" they all stop and look at me " maybe some people have already been through here and took care of them" Hannah says
" but see that make no sense... If people did go through here why is there all this stuff still here?"
" maybe they didn't want any of the stuff they found here or they didn't have room for any of it" Tanner says looking at me.
"Yeah.... I guess you're right..." I say still looking around. " it's just too quiet... I don't like this" I say under my breath. We start to walk farther into the city until we get to a mall the door was locked and so we stopped in front and sat down.
" we are all in low spirits so how about I do something" Hannah says standing up, we all look up at her when she walks over in front of the door. She starts to tell some jokes when she steps back and trips on a rock.
"Ahh!" She hits the door with a thud when we hear a loud noise, the door flies open as she flies into the mall
" well thanks for he...." Before she was able to finish her sentence we all stand up and inside was something I wish I had never seen. The mall was locked for a reason... The mall was filled with I'm guessing every citizen in this city. I yell at her to get up when she looks behind her. She scrambles to get and I run over to her to help her up. As soon as I get to her a zombie grabs her leg and pulls her back down I freeze as I stare at her. Hundreds of zombies come closer to all of us as Hannah get surrounded by zombies. I'm still frozen as she lays on the ground screaming being ripped apart in front of me. I just hear her screams as I get pulled back and I see Tanner yelling at me.
" Chelsi! We have to go! We have to..." As I stare at him zombies come up behind him and bite his neck and grab his face. Everything I see happening is happening so fast I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I get pushed down on the ground as Tanner gets ripped apart like Hannah I look around and see Max, Sam, Leo and Brian all shooting the zombies coming out of the mall. I stand up and pull out my sword and swing at the zombies surrounding me, still not in my senses I look over at Sam and Leo they get surrounded and Sam gets grabbed by 3 zombies. Leo grabs her hand and pulls her away. They both fall on the ground and I see the zombies get on top of them. I just hear their cries. I look over at Brian and he is telling me to run. I turn around and start to run away, I look back at the zombies as they keep coming out of the mall and watch Brian get taken down like the others. Before I turn my head back in front of me I trip over a body I fall on the ground and when I open my eyes I see that I had just tripped over a 5 years old girl with no legs. She looks at me as I try to get up. She sticks her hand out at me as tears start to flow from my eyes. I continue to run away from the screams as they fade and I make it to the top of a hill. I fall to my knees as I continue to cry. I look at my pistol that is in front of me. I pick it up and take it off safety. I lift the gun up to my head and put my finger on the trigger.
" WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN?! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE" I yell at the top of my lungs and close my eyes.
