Perfection's Chains

Summary: On Earth, everything has evolved to be a utopia on the outside. But it seems like Minaso Ryusi is the only being there that's not made out of utopia-material.

"Why can't you forgive me?"

"Well, this isn't how you get forgiveness."

Freedom rings.

Anxiety shakes.

Doubt whispers.

And loneliness will drag you down into a pit of havoc.

Those were my thoughts as I held my wrists up to allow the chains to drape over my dark skin again.

"Day four-hundred-and-seventy-three, Minaso, seems like ages."

"If that's ages, I still have a lot of them to go through," I retorted.

The woman handling the chains stopped in her work, fingers frozen in the action of making sure the links were secure. "I know this is hard, being imprisoned for the rest of your lifetime, but you'll make through it, okay?"

"Walkin' around like I'm some animal who has to be kept under control?" I challenged. "Nasha, I'm paraded 'round the city by the mayor, and people enjoy it!"

Sighing, Nasha dropped her hands. "All right, you're good to go."

"You're avoiding my statement. I don't even know what I did wrong. All I want is my freedom ba-"

"All, my little pig, are we ready to go?"

I cut short, whipping around to see probably the only person I really hate in this world- the mayor of the city of Phoenix, Ren Watari.

Patting my head, Ren straightened up to his full height, which towered over me. Just the thought made my eyebrow twitch, but a smack in the small of my back caused me to snap out of the thought.

"Well, are you?" Ren asked.

I curled my lip and glared up at the Indian mayor, who only smiled in return. "What if I say no?"

He clicked his tongue. "Now, now, little pig. It's only been little over a year. You have a lot more to serve."

"What did I even do wrong? Why? Why can't you guys forgive me for questioning the way of life nowadays?!"

He only smiled, lifted my chains in his fingers, and yanked me out of the room.

As I stumbled, cheers and roars met my ears. Ren tugged me up the stairs and onto the catwalk, lifting his hands up.

"Welcome, citizens everywhere! I'm so pleased you could give up your time to see this!"

Crap, a bigger crowd then the last two days.

"As you know, this is Minaso Ryusi! The only human being as of currently who's broken the rules!"

Rules? What rules? You put me under arrest for questioning how we live.

Ren led me around the catwalk, and it was almost like I was a celebrity, but in a bad way.

People clawed at my heels, trying to rake their nails across my exposed skin.

I winced, trying to flinch away, but the grasp the chains had on me held tight, and the only thing I could do was keep following Ren.

People don't remember unhappy endings.

So, meet Minaso. He's perfectly normal, just your every-day seventeen-year-old who was put under chains for his entire life just because he questioned the utopia life his city lives in, and used as an example for the rest of the world what not to become.
