I don't know it came through the car window
Literally. It hit me in the face.
...wait, those were my headphones. Oh well.

It's my fault.

My muscles sore and stiff, I sprang from Ajax's back, stumbling onto the ground as my legs threatened to crumble beneath me.

My jaw trembling as my dark-brown hair fell into my eyes, I fell to my knees after casting a glimpse at the strewn-out form of an Eternal demon, Two's expression a strange sight. It was a mix of terror and shock, as well as a mix of amusement and rage.

"You..."

Erythos's lips trembled, chapped and bloodied. His entire lower jaw was covered in the scarlet liquid, smeared across his face. "F-F-Fer..."

Despite the screaming pain in my limbs, I touched his cheek lightly, trying to gauge the blood loss. "You idiot..."

"H-Hey...don't torture...m-me..."

I shakily exhaled, glancing at Two's body. Erythos winced in the corner of my eye, his arms and legs twisted at a strange angle as he struggled to rearrange his form. "Even in the end, you were loyal to your first insticts."

He bitterly laughed, a brittle laugh that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. "I-If you...act long...en-enough...your...b-body...stops...rec-recognizing...it as a lie...and...c-considers...it the...tr-truth..."

I could see his eyes glistening, threatening to succumb to death already.

"Erythos, hold on. You'll get through this."

He gave me a small smile through a broken expression, shutting his eyes as he awaited his death, blood leaking through his cuts. I watched as tears started to run, mixing in with his blood.

Around me, people were dying. But I was sitting here, my arms feeling like lead as I watched a blonde, who I didn't know before the year started, die before my eyes. Usually I wouldn't care.

"Ferran!" Erythos grinned, jogging up to me. "Yo, guess what? I got Otora to go out with me!"

Erythos' head slumped, dipping down towards his chest as he surrendered. "F-Fer...you...you always...were a y-younger...brother..."

The sound of my heart obscured any other noise, thumping loudly in my ears. The blade- sleek, tipped with crimson blood- trembled at my throat before escaping into the darkness, and I looked up numbly into green eyes.

"Fer," Erythos whispered, pulling me into a tight hug. "I thought you died."

"I'll see you in a next life, hopefully," I said in a low tone, grasping his hand tightly in my own.

His lips twitched one last time before his eyes glazed over, the last slivers of life withering away.

Erythos, you died with a smile on your face.
