"Yu, stay safe, okay?"

The young boy offered you a wide and cute smile, beaming with closed-eyes.

"I'll be fine! After all, Tsubasa's here, isn't he? You need to take care of yourself!"

You glanced up at the mentioned silver-haired male, who could be counted as Yu Tendo's guardian and ignored the second half of his words.

Take care of yourself.

"Then that means he has to stay safe too. You listening, Otori?"

"Yes," Tsubasa Otori's gaze didn't inch from his book. "We'll be fine."

'We'll be fine.'

(y/n),

We just arrived, yay~! The plane was really, really boring and stunk of oldie people, and Tsubasa didn't play with me! So I just annoyed him saying 'Amazing, huh?' over and over again.

It somehow managed to work, cuz he played cards with me.

Of course, he totally didn't win. Totally. KING YU TRIUMPHS!

Anyway, we were told that Pluto's acting up ever since we defeated Nemesis, so we had to take a looooooong boring ride to an airport and now fly to the island.

The sea was all murky and weird.

And that's where we are right now! BUBAI! DON'T CHOKE ON SNICKERS!

Yu

Dear Yu,

I'm glad to hear that everything's going smoothly despite how long it takes to do all these things. I know how short your patience is (and it's so cute!) compared to Tsubasa's. Tell him I said hi, okay? This might be my last letter for a while, since I was told I need to spend some time in the hospital.

(y/n)

(y/n),

Tsubasa said hello back! And your letters are so short, Awwwww~ I know you have to go to the hospital a lot because of your mom, so I hope you can write back soon! I'll get impatient again, (y/n)! Didya notice that I don't tack on a nickname? That's because, next to Tsubasa, you're my closest friend! Unless you want me too, then okay~ the flight to the island was exhausting, and I had to sit next to Yoyo, who basically growled every time I talked to him! Meanie. Anyway, Gingie's calling me, so gotta go!

Yu

Dear Yu,

Sorry for the absence of my letters. Yeah, taking care of mom's taking my toll on me... but I have something to tell Tsubasa, so I'm also sending a letter to him.

Dear Tsubasa,

Please, don't tell Yu this... but I won't be here much longer. Not to talk, anyway. My hands, they shake while writing. It's hard to remember names, but only your guys' names stick out in my mind.

My mom has dementia- frontotemporal dementia. Seems like I have the same thing. Tell Yu I'm sorry for not being able to send letters anymore. It's a struggle to even recall words.

(y/n)

(y/n)!

Tsubasa refuses to tell me anything! So please, please, tell me! It stinks not knowing, it stinks, it stinks! And it makes me sad! You don't want me to be sad, right?

Yu

Dear Yu,

You're the most important person in the world to me. <3 Sorry.

(y/n)

He stopped shuffling through the letters, placing the lid of the box back on the shoe-box.

"Sorry?" The male murmured incredulously, setting the box on a grave.

(y/n) (l/n)

The engraved lettering caused his gaze to drift over to the grave next to yours, the grave with the same lettering.

On second thought, he slid the box in between the two graves.

The second grave was one labeled 'Yu Tendo'.

Tsubasa Otori raised his head towards the sky, feeling the familiar burn of tears behind his eyes.

Two lovers who had their time cut short. Both not even in their teens.

Yu, who had fallen to a heavy rock that completely crushed his spine.

(y/n), who had surrendered to dementia and let it take her life.

Two lovers who should have been able to love longer.

Dear (y/n),

Why does it sound like you're saying g o o d b y e?
