Aidan's POV:

I stared into space, not listening to whatever the hell Emma and the other people were saying. I was so close from making a quick escape. But Emma had a really strong grip. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that girl had talons instead of hands.

My eyes roamed the cafeteria, seeing but not taking anything in. Emma was yakking my ear off about the latest club she's been to, and some idiot down the table was showing off his new tattoo, which was in a spot where... well, it was hard to see. Ah. High school.

I looked around again, and this time I saw something. It was Tiana, her gold-ish hair catching my eye. She was sitting with some juniors, deep in conversation. For some reason, I wanted to know what they were talking about. I frowned. What the hell was I thinking? She had nothing to do with me.

Tiana turned, and we made eye contact. Her blue eyes questioned me, and all I could think of was, who was I kidding; of course she'd freaking stand out in a crowd!

"What are you looking at?" Emma asked me, turning.

"Nothing," I said quickly. "So where was that club again?"

She smiled flirtatiously at me, distracted. As she started off again, I looked back, but Tiana was already leaving. Good. I didn't know what the shit I was doing.

Tiana's POV:

I turned, and sure enough, Aidan was staring at me. What the hell?

"Is THE Aidan Tallan," Andrea said dramatically. "Staring at the new girl, Tiana? Are they having a moment? What the hell is going on?"

Aidan looked away, saying something to the girl beside him. I turned back to Andrea and found them all staring at me. "What's with the staring?"

"You tell us," Nick shot back. "Why was he staring at you?"

"I don't know." I shrugged. "But it's not like it meant something. He hates me. I know." They continued staring at me, even more confused.

Finally Sana said what everyone was thinking. "What?"

I sighed. "Let's go somewhere else."

They led me to the school’s front steps. No one was around, even though the sun was out and it was a beautiful day.

"So, explain." Andrea sat down on the first step.

"I came here alone," I started. "I don’t have any relatives left, so I needed a place to stay. There was this program... anyway; I'm um... staying with Aidan's family." I said the last part really quietly, but they all heard.

Silence. Then: "WHAT?" Nick reacted first. "No freaking way!"

"Really?" Sana said. Seth shook his head, amazed.

Andrea grinned mischievously."Ooh... I wonder what will happen! This is better than those shows on TV!"

"Nothing is gonna happen!" I protested. "He ignores me half the time, and the other half he's glaring at me."

"Sounds like the asshole he is," Nick muttered.

"We'll see, we'll see," Andrea said, waving her hand. "Hey, have you seen him shirtless? Does he really have that snake tattoo thing on his right shoulder?"
