Kieran’s POV:
The bell rang, announcing last block. Sighing, I debated whether or not to skip this block. I mean, it’s French. I wasn’t ever going to use French in North America, was I? Unless I was going to Quebec anytime soon. Which I wasn’t planning on. Not to mention the fact that Andrea was in that class as well…
Shrugging, I walked towards the second floor classroom. I wasn’t known for backing down because I was afraid. How could I be afraid of anything when… eh, never mind. Best not to think about that dark stuff here.
The second bell rang just as I strolled in. I aimed a smile at the teacher, who shook her head at me resignedly. I slipped into the seat behind Tiana, and Andrea immediately turned to face the board, lips pressed tight and determined not to acknowledge me.
Ouch, that hurt.
I caught Tiana’s eye as she glanced between us two. Raising my eyebrows, I pointed at Andrea, silently asking if she’d given her my note. (Yes, I know, sixth-grade much? But Andrea wouldn’t talk to me, and I didn’t have her number… yet.) Tiana gave me a quick nod, and then faced the teacher as well as the class began.
I spent the next twenty minutes of the teacher explaining some rules of irregular past-tense verb conjugations staring at nothing, planning how to get Andrea to fall for my charms. This was hard. That girl could stump Einstein, I swear!
Working on worksheets Ms. Champignon handed out, my mind couldn’t help straying to Aidan and Tiana. Not like I was jealous or creepy or whatever, but… something’s nagging me. Something about Tiana’s “visions”, Aidan’s adoption, their behaviours, and the rumours I’ve heard… It’s probably none of my business, but it’s too late now. I wasn’t one to just let things go unsolved. Or rather, to put it plainly, this thing’s going to eat at me until I went insane. I had to know more.
First though, I had to find a way to ask Andrea out… and not be rejected.
When class finally ended, I followed Tiana and Andrea as they made their way to their lockers. Tiana shot me a curious look but Andrea just scowled ahead of her. I noticed that the back of her neck had turned red though-----which either meant she was mad enough to break something, or really nervous. I couldn’t decide which I preferred.
“Oh, I just realized!” Tiana said suddenly, with a little too much enthusiasm. “I forgot my, um, pencil crayons in my locker! I really love those pencil crayons… I’m just going to, um, go get them… Yeah… Be right back!” She scurried away, shooting me a meaningful look as she passed.
I shook my head. She’s a good friend, that girl. Bad actress, but good friend just the same. I turned back to Andrea to find her scowling at me. “Uh… hi,” I said cautiously.
She shoved her English textbook into her locker. (I felt bad for that book. And it was innocent.) “What do you want.”
“Nothing!” I smirked as I lean against the lockers. “At least, nothing but you.”
I thought she’d started to blush, but then she turned her scary glare on me. She still managed to look beautiful at the same time though. Scary, but beautiful.
Crap. I called her beautiful. Everyone knew that no dude called a girl beautiful unless he was, you know… too far gone. (I was not using the ‘L’ word.) I didn’t need a mirror to tell me that I was whipped. Oh man.
