Tiana’s POV:

Kieran slipped into class a second before the bell. He made a beeline for the seat next to me. When some poor kid made a move to take the seat, Kieran shot him a look with his piercing grey eyes and the kid scrambled off. Kieran sat down, flicking his black hair out of the way. He glanced at me.

“How’s your head?”

“Fine,” I lied, glancing away.

“Liar,” he muttered under his breath.

We sat in silence as the teacher began talking about having to read some novel; Kieran in pissed off silence and me stubbornly refusing to acknowledge him. Darn, he reads me too well. That’s cool most of the time, having a friend who really understood you, but it’s not cool when you’re trying to keep up the pretense that you’re a normal girl, no weird crap happening in your mind, honest.

After ten minutes of staring at the teacher pretending I gave a damn what he was saying, my head started to ache real bad. I blinked, trying to fight off drowsiness, but who was I kidding. I laid my head down on the desk, hoping to stop the room from spinning a bit.

“Ms. Follow?” the teacher asked annoyingly. Like, couldn’t he give me a few minutes? “Are you possibly taking a nap in my class?”

I sat up, looking at him blearily. “I’m sorry sir… I’m just, really, really tired…”

“She has a headache,” offered Kieran. “And it’s really bothering her. Right, Tia?”

I looked at him, a little slow. My head hurt really badly. I scrunched up my face, feeling blood pound through my head like a marching army.

“If you have a headache, you should go see the nurse,” the teacher said, concern in his voice. “She can give you a Tylenol or aspirin…”

“I’ll take her there,” Keiran volunteered, and before the teacher could object, he’d grabbed out stuff and ushered me out the door.

“I don’t want to go to the nurse,” I protested.

“I know. Who said we’re going to the nurse?” He hadn’t let go of my arm and was leading me outside.

“Then where are we going?” I asked.

“Here.” He led me to the place where I had my first real conversation with him, behind the building. To think that that was just a week ago… Seemed like so much had happened since then. I guess a lot did happen, huh? We sat down under a tree.

Kieran studied me with his grey eyes, and for a moment I was reminded of Aidan looking at me closely like that too. I dragged myself back to the present.

“Look, I know you don’t want to tell me what’s going on,” began Keiran, “but I’m worried as heck about you. I need to know if you’re okay. Because to be honest, you’re freaking the shit out of me. And Aidan, too, but he seems to be in on this. Or at least more informed than I am.” He looked at me carefully, not missing a single reaction from me.
