Tiana's POV:

“Here it is,” I announced, as Nick stopped the car in the driveway. Aidan was nowhere to be found when we left; even his car was missing from the parking lot. He wasn’t at study hall, either. I wondered what he was up to.

“So this is Aidan Tallan’s home,” Nick said slowly.

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Come on, he’ll probably come home soon and then he’ll never leave us in peace.”

“Why?” asked Nick as I unlocked the door with my spare key.

“He thinks you’re some psycho rapist,” I laughed.

Nick grabbed me suddenly, catching me off guard, and I yelped. “Who knows, maybe I am some creeper…” he whispered in my ear.

I smacked him, laughing hard. Nick with his boy-next-door looks and easygoing nature as a creeper? The idea was just too absurd to consider. He had an open, honest face you could practically read his mind because his emotions are so clear. The only reason Nick would hurt somebody was because that somebody was threatening the people he cared about. Even then, I bet he’d try talking it out first.

We sat in the living room, spreading our books and paper on the coffee table. “So they trust you alone in the house?” he said.

I shrugged, pulling out my pens and pencils. “I guess. What would I do, bomb the house---- and get shipped off to another place? This family’s one of the nicest I’ve been to. Well, maybe except Aidan. But I wouldn’t want to do anything to have to leave again. And Sandra and Darrel seem to like me. That’s not very common.”

“You’re very likable,” Nick objected. Then he blushed, looking down at the textbook.

I smiled at him. “Thank you. Now, let’s pick a topic.”

Half an hour later, I was having a great time working with Nick, figuring out meanings of huge scientific words while criticizing the whole project. Of course, then Aidan walked in, all tall dark and scowls, shooting a well-polished glare at Nick.

“Hello, Aidan,” Nick waved politely, if not a little forced.

“Hello yourself,” Aidan responded, and then asked me, “How long have you been here?”

“We came straight from school,” I told him, “Not that you would notice, seeing as you weren’t there.”

Flopping down on the couch on the other side of me, Aidan glanced at our work. “What are you doing?” he asked.

“Science project,” I said through gritted teeth. “Like I said a million times already.”

“Sure. So does that mean that he has to lean so close to you?”

Nick inched away from me, frowning and blushing a little.

“He’s just looking at my paper,” I said, frowning as well. “He has a reason, unlike you, who’s just as close.”

“Whatever.” Aidan muttered, backing up a little.

Turning, I gave Nick an I told you so look. Ignoring Aidan, who must’ve walked into a cloud of asshole by accident, I continued to work with Nick. “So, I think we should totally do that idea you mentioned. If we can get it done over the weekend…”
