Tiana's POV:
I turned off the light and got into bed, shivering slightly in my tank top and shorts. It was 11 pm-ish, and I was tired as hell. After we got home from the diner, it was beyond awkward and uncomfortable. Aidan locked himself in his room, so I’d decided to do some homework. Sigh. First week of school, and already a pile of homework. Wake me when I graduate.
I closed my eyes, hearing some murmurs from two levels up, Darrel and Sandra. Like usual, no sound from Aidan. He made enough sound to be a ghost, seriously.
And then I was asleep...
---entering dreamland, er, nightmare land---
Darkness, cloaking me all around. It was cold and I was shivering violently. I could hear faint screams, bone chilling laughter, but I couldn't see the source.
"Hello?" I called. But my voice wouldn't come out properly. It was too quiet. "Who's there?"
I felt a hand on my shoulder. A darker shadow, menacing, coming closer... A pinch, a murmur, a chuckle. "Be warned..." Soft laughter followed the cheesy line.
I screamed, and then falling again, through cold water. Red filled my vision. A dark alley, with an opened door. A glint of something sharp. Then... silence. I looked up, and froze. A pair of familiar eyes stared back... but it was red. Pure, dark, hungry red...
"NOOOOO!!!!" I yelled again, but no one could hear.
"Tiana! Tiana..." a voice was calling distantly. I struck out, eyes shut, not wanting to see no more.
---out of scary nightmare place---
"Tiana, OW! Stop hitting me!" A hand pinned my arm down on the bed. I opened my eyes. Aidan sat on my bed, his hair messed up. He looked at me warily, a flash of concern in his green eyes. "You okay? Will you stop hitting me now?"
I blinked at him. "What are you doing here?"
"You screamed. And you were tossing," he explained. "Then you started hitting me. Nearly poked out my eye. Dreamed you were a ninja or something?"
"Uh, no..." I put a hand over my eyes. "Sorry I woke you up."
"Eh, I was awake," he said, looking away. He lifted his head to look back at me. "Wanna talk about it?"
I shook my head. I felt that ghost of a hand on my shoulder again, and shivered. Aidan shifted closer to me. "Cold?" he said softly. He put an arm around me. I leaned into him automatically, too tired to protest or push him away. I put my head on his shoulder. He rubbed my arms gently. "Better?"
I nodded. "C-can you stay... please? F-for a while..." If I was thinking clearly, I'd probably die of humiliation right there. I still probably would if he ever brought it up. But right then I didn't care. I was still shaken, still had the image of those reddened eyes burned into my mind. And right there in Aidan's arms, I felt safe.
"Okay," he murmured. He leaned back onto the pillows, pulling the covers over us. "Go back to sleep. I'll... be here." He pulled me closer.
I closed my eyes, already sleepy again. It felt so good in his arms. His body heat warmed me up, making me forget the nightmare, just a little. "Thank you..." I managed to mumble before I was drifting off again...
:)
Aidan's POV:
I smoothed her hair back, looking down at her peaceful face. She seemed even more vulnerable when she's asleep. Until she got a nightmare. Then she looked scared as hell. And she'd never tell anyone, just kept it inside. That wasn't healthy, I didn't think.
