Tiana's POV:
I got up late the next morning, thankful it's still summer vacation. I kept tossing and turning last night, the images and flashes in my head keeping me up. It didn't help that my mind kept going back to when Aidan came in and held me. I might have been messed up then, but I didn’t miss the skepticism in his eyes when I told him it was panic attacks.
That wasn’t the only thing I noticed, of course. Like the way it felt when I was in his arms. Like I was safe.
I changed, heading upstairs. The house was quiet. I spied a note on the table next to a plate of cooling waffles. It said Sandra and Darrel had gone to do some business and will be back in the evening. There wasn’t a sound or movement through the house, so I assumed that Aidan was also out. Or at least still sleeping.
I ate the waffles, and walked back down. I was at the foot of the stairs when someone called my name. I turned, and saw a dark-haired head pop up from the couch in the basement. "Hey."
"Uh, hi?" I mumbled. What did he want? Shit, I hope he doesn't ask about...
"So. Last night." He fixed a stare on me. "You okay?"
"Yes," I assured him. "Fine totally. Really, it's nothing I just get those headaches from time to time."
"You mean panic attacks."
"Yeah. Panic. Headaches." I tried to laugh, but it was such a pathetic attempt I quickly shut up.
"So I don't have to call anyone?" he said. "Your guardian? My parents? The hospital? The mental hospital?"
I couldn't tell if he was joking. "No, you don't have to tell anyone. Really. Just forget it really happened. It's nothing serious." But I could clearly read in his eyes, fighting back screams and hyperventilating is nothing serious? Are you kidding?
He shrugged, and I turned to go. There wasn’t much left to say and he obviously didn’t want me hanging around. But then he said, "Wait." And suddenly he was around the couch in front of me. That was really fast. And just like that I was reminded of the fact that I was alone in a house in the basement with a strange boy that was obviously stronger and incredibly faster... But before I could even register fear, he continued.
"Let's go somewhere. I'll show you around." I didn’t know who was more surprised that he offered, him or me.
:)
"The mall?" I looked at Aidan, who shrugged.
"Thought you girls love the mall," he said as went in. "You could get some shopping done."
I shook my head. Like mother, like son? Or did he think that girls just shop all day? As we walked through the mall aimlessly, Aidan a silent shadow behind me, I noticed girls staring at him. For some reason, I didn’t like that. But I shook that thought away. It's not like I had a reason to be protective. We weren’t together or anything. Ew.
