thanks for sticking around, guys. now, let's get to tiana and aidan.
Tiana’s POV:
Unlocking the door, I stepped into the house cautiously. I didn’t know why I was being careful. There’s nothing I did wrong. Still, I crept downstairs quietly.
When I reached my bedroom with no interruptions, I breathed out a sigh of relief. I’d just thrown my bag into the corner when I was barrelled from behind. I landed against the wall, the breath knocked out of me. Looking up, I found a pair of green eyes glaring at me.
“Where the hell were you?” demanded Aidan.
It took me a second to respond, as he’s pinning against the wall, and the last time we were this close… well, let’s just say that I was far from over it. “I was at the park, with Andrea?” I managed.
He didn’t back off. “Why didn’t you leave a note or something?”
I blinked. “I was going to come straight back----”
“Do you know how freaky it is to come back to an empty house, to find you gone without a trace?” he snapped, still glaring at me. “I had no idea what happened or if you were okay, if I should call my parents or the police or what. Never ever do that again, you hear me? What if something did happen? What’ll I do---- what’ll I tell my parents then?”
I opened my mouth----to say what, I didn’t know----- but I didn’t get a chance to speak. One second I was locked in a staring contest with Aidan, and the next I was somewhere completely different.
It’s a dim-lit office, familiar-looking. There’s a man---no, a vampire----- sitting in the chair behind the sparse desk. I recognize him; he’s Gavin, the guy Aidan went to for answers. He’s reading a letter.
“That’s not good,” he mutters.
Glancing at the clock, he rubs his eyes tiredly. Only now I notice how exhausted he looks. He looks ages older than the last time I saw him. Like he’s seen too much lately that he can’t even summon the energy to put on a fake mask. I remember what Aidan said to him: “No one could play both sides without choosing one over the other.”
He closes his eyes for a second, as if concentrating. Only a moment passes before he stands, ripping the letter to shreds and tossing them into the fire. As the paper burns to ashes, the door suddenly burst open. Gavin turns, and for a split second I almost catch a flicker of fear in his eyes. Then his game face is on, and he stares at the intruders with a grim expression.
“What is the meaning of this?” he says mildly. “You have to have an appointment to see me----”
“Stop pretending,” spits out the first of the cloaked figures (so clichéd, right?), getting right into Gavin’s face. “We already know of your betrayal.”
Giving doesn’t even blink. “You know I’m a double-spy, Jasper----”
Jasper snarls, shoving the elder vampire backwards. “Double, sure. But how about triple? These ‘inside men’ are the trickiest, and since you are one of the best…” He signals to his men, body stand offensive. “…You are one of the most dangerous. Goodbye, Gavin.”
Gavin doesn’t get a chance to respond before they are all on him.
I gasped, slamming back into the basement.
