#23. Where are you going?

I'd received a mail from the Productive Muslim once and it was about this ayah.

It went on about how terrifying it is to think that Allah, from above the seven heavens is asking US where we're going and we better have some damn good answer yo.

It correlated with the Tafsir of Surah Al-Baqarah that I was studying.

Allah says, "For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent." (2:148)

This verse is in relation to the change of the Qibla from Masjid Al-Aqsa to the Ka'ba.

In a specific sense, it means that every religious group has a Qibla where they turn to, but my tafsir teacher explained this is in a general sense and it's so beautiful!

Everyone has a centre point in their life, something they turn to, at the end of the day when all the white noise has faded.

Something they dedicate their life to, something that's always at the back of their minds, no matter what they're doing.

It could be anything. For some of us, it may be someone we love, for someone else, it may be their career or education, but Allah Himself is telling us the focus of our lives.

Hasten towards good deeds.

Hastening towards good deeds is to hasten towards jannah and to hasten towards jannah is to hasten towards the company and approval of Allah.

Allah.

He's the centre of our lives.

Salah is the meeting we return to.

Dua is the conversation we return to.

A lot of us consider our deen and our dunya as two different things. We keep our textbooks and our Qur'an different.

But we need to understand that as modern educated Muslims, we need to use the education that we're provided to get us closer to Allah and his deen.

As a medical student, everything I study about the human body amazes me. The intricacies of the tiniest cells in our body stands testimony to the greatness of our Khaliq!

Use your education to get closer to Allah. To work for His deen. To strive in His cause.

And ask yourself this question every morning--Where am I going?

Search for the answers and set your goals.

Be better and more productive than you were yesterday.

Introspect and make your Ramadan report, find your inefficacies and work on them the rest of these days.

Set spiritual, academic and personal goals for yourself, and pray to Allah for strength.

Walk, for we are walking with each other.

Walk, for we're aiming for the same spot.

Walk, for we're all going.

To Him.

Eventually.
