Day 15: Reflect, reflect, reflect!

88 14 1

(Sahih International)

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth are signs for a people who use reason.

-Sura Al-Baqarah, Ayah 164

As you and I look down into our phones, a second has passed by. A second that will not come back.

Somewhere, a wind must have blown. Somewhere, a cloud must have moved.

Somewhere, a plant must have grown.

And we've been ignorant of it.

For a lot of us, sunset is just a number on the clock. It's been ages since we've seen one. Star gazing is a thing of the past. It feels like forever since we've felt the wind on our faces.

Our windows are always rolled up, our eyes always cast down, trying to replace all things natural with something man made, something artificial.

In ignoring the creation of Allah, we ignore His remembrance because the true essence of the creator and His power is in His own creation.

And the one who is heedless of Allah's remembrance, his heart will always be restless and worried.

No wonder we do not have mental and spiritual peace in our lives, despite having the best homes and what not.

The more man gets cut off from nature, the weaker he gets, in all of his senses. We were meant to breathe fresh air, our lungs crave it. We were meant to listen to the chirping of the birds, they long to be heard by us.

Yet we're lost in a concrete world. There is always some place to go and no where to stay.

We need to revive this Ibadah. Yes! To reflect upon Allah's creation is a form of worship.

It is when you feel the power of your Lord through the strong tug of the winds, His mercy through the drops of rain, His Might through the sound of thunder, His Wisdom through the sight of crops, that you get closer to Him and start to Love Him deeply.

The creation screams out for your attention! It screams out for the people who know.

These people who reflect and use reason, when they see the signs of Allah, the absoutee precision of it, the flawless balance in it, they are reinforced with the belief that all of this was not created in vain. They understand that everything has a purpose.

If a tiny bee can have a purpose and can play such a huge role in the ecosystem, then how can intelligent human beings stay behind?

When you reflect, you take lessons from everything. You learn from the bee, the ant, and even the mosquito. The world becomes your library and you, an eager reader.

This is possible only when you look up. Look up and around you, reflect over what you see and remember Allah.

Umar Bin Abdul Azeez RA called reflecting over Allah's creation the greatest form of Ibadah. Because this opens up your mind, it broadens your perspective and you start seeing things with clarity.

Allah doesn't want you to have faith blindly. The Quran doesn't want you to be a robot. It wants to stay active, go about, research, reflect, question and understand!

كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

-Sura Sad, Ayah 29

Reflecting over the Qur'an adds perspective to the creation. It adds on to your life, and gives you meaning.

So when you go out tomorrow, put away your phone and watch the sky, feel the wind on your face and thank Allah for His favours. Come back home and reflect over the Quran.

The more you do this, the lesser you will be worried about your life. Because then you understand that you are a part of a bigger picture, and just like the night always has to leave, your problems will too.

You just need to keep your eyes out for the sunrise! ✨
