»An Nasai (The Book of the Commencement of the Prayer - 37)

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said "When Jibril was with the Messenger of Allah (), he heard a sound from above like a door opening.

Jibril, peace be upon him, looked up toward the sky and said: 'This is a gate in Heaven that has been opened, but it was never opened before."

He said: "An Angel came down from it and came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said: 'Receive the glad tidings of two lights that have been given to you and were never given to any prophet before you: The Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the last verses of Surat Al-Baqarah.

You will never recite a single letter of them but you will be granted it.'" (Sahih)

»An Nasai (The Book of Salah - 4)

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said "When the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was taken on the Night Journey, he came to Sidrah Al-Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it.

Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it! [1]

He said: "It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al-Muqhimat." [2] [1] An-Najm 53:16. [2] "The sins of the worst magnitude that drag one into the Fire." (An-Nihayah)

The last two verses of the longest Surah of the Qur'an.

They were given as gifts to our beloved prophet when he ascended to the heavens.

Surah Baqarah is like a comprehensive summary of our religion.

It starts with emphasis on iman, kufr and nifaq (hypocrisy), then goes on to give the message of tauheed and reiterates it through the stories of Bani Israel and continues with commandments and legal rulings.

It's an amazing Surah. The linguistic continuity puts us all in awe at the very beginning of Allah's book.

And when it ends, it goes back to iman. It winds up at the point it began with.

Iman.

It's like saying that we can only follow all the legal instructions and gain lessons from the stories of the people before us only when we get our foundation right. And that is, to believe in the very purpose of our religion and the very purpose of the Qur'an.

The verses go on to reveal the true etiquette of a believer right after iman.

Obedience.

We hear and we obey.

The sahaba were a nation whose distinguishing characteristic was their readiness to obey.

They didn't care about logic or societal pressure or the consequences that could play out against them.

They just didn't care.

All they believed in, was submission and obedience.

Subhan Allah, how many ayat do we hear everyday that tell us not to misbehave with our parents, not to back bite, not to approach immorality, not to be unkind to people yet our ears are still filled up to the brim with heedlessness?

The nation of the sahaba was a virtuous nation, a successful nation because they held onto the book of Allah.

We are being torn apart as an ummah today. Every day seems to be getting worse. The news is all ominous. The signs are all bad. There seems to be no way this world's going to heal again.

But there's you and I with our Musshafs. You and I who were sent here for a reason.

You and I who can bring change.

If only we hold onto this guide in our hands. If only we do what Allah wants us to do.

To be kind and compassionate and reflective and above all, supportive to our cause and our beautiful brothers and sisters along this path.

Subhan Allah, the way this Dua progress is just so raw and real!

Subhan Allah, the way this Dua progress is just so raw and real!

Because no matter how much of an expert one becomes in matters of fiqh, no matter how strong our iman gets, we are bound to forget and we are bound to make mistakes.

It's in our DNA, this irreplaceable knack of just messing up over and over again.

The dua progresses beautifully asking Allah to forgive us and help us and not burden us with things we can't bear.

This is one of the most beautiful and realest duas I have ever come across.

Try your best to memorize them and recite them every night.

»Jamiat Tirmidhi (Chapters on The Virtues of the Qur'an - 9)

Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "Whoever recites the last two Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah during the night, they shall suffice him."

This Ramadan, as you rejoice at having completed your Qur'an, remember this beautiful habit of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

After he'd finish reviewing the entire Qur'an with Jibreel Alayhissalam during Ramadan, he'd get back to Baqarah.

Because our journey with the Qur'an doesn't have to end with Ramadan.

It'll only end with our last breath.
