3. To be understood
With more than 3 billion copies and translations in 50 different languages, the Qur'an is the most read and most popular book of all time.
Yet sadly, it is the one that is not read with understanding.
Imagine reading any of your course books in Greek. Would you still be able to study? Would you to be able to apply your knowledge in your life? Would you be able to prepare for the test?
Of course not. It sounds ridiculous to even suggest that.
Then why is it that we have become so careless with the Qur'an?
Surah Qamar verse 17:
And indeed, We have made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)?
وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَهْجُورًا
(Sahih International)
And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned."
-Sura Al-Furqan, Ayah 30
We must all be scared of being in such a position that our beloved messenger, the one with the golden heart would be disappointed in us that he'd witness against us in front of Allah :(
We even go to the extent of finishing the Qur'an multiple times but not once with translation or tafsir.
It's not like we've not got sources! There's abundant material online, and offline to learn Arabic and understand the Qur'an.
Use them! Your creator is talking to you. The Lord of the worlds is personally talking to teeny tiny you! Know Him, Know His book and you'll fall in love with Him all over again.
4. To be followed upon:
Allah SWT says :
لَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُتَصَدِّعًا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
(Sahih International)
If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah . And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.
-Sura Al-Hashr, Ayah 21
It means that the Qur'an's effect is so powerful that even the mountains collapse. It shows how much might there is in the words of this book.
And if such a mighty thing can not shake you, what will?
Qur'an is a book that changed an Islamophobe, a person who wanted to harm the Prophet PBUH, who used to beat his slaves for accepting Islam, the Qur'an took that person and made him Umar ibn Khattab RA, one of the rightly guided caliphs.
The Qur'an took a highway robberer and made him Abu Darr Al Ghifary, the Truthful
There are so many examples of the Sahabah who transformed their lives according to the Quran. We need to be the same.
We need to be the Quranic generation that lives and breathes the Quran.
Not just read and understand it, but let it enter our lives and change us.
5. To be spread
Allah has completed His favor on us, by giving us the miracle of Qur'an and sending us our Prophet Peace be upon him, and the prophet has finished his work by bringing about the revolution of Islam but the thing about revolution is that the movement needs to be carried on.
The spark needs to be kept alive or the fire will die down.
Baqarah 143 :
And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you.
Our purpose of being sent here, is to pass on the message to the rest of the world.
We are the mediators, the ones who have to continue the work of the Prophets. We can't afford to waste our free time and energy. We can't afford to sit back and relax. And most of all, we can't afford to be careless with the Quran.
It's time we pick it up, read it, let it change us and then change the world with it.
The Quran must change you, so you can change the world!
