Author's note:
To everyone who's voted/commented/added this to book to their reading list, I want to say-- thank you. JazakAllah Khair, BarakAllahu feekum.Thank you for not giving up on me. I know my updates are very sporadic and I don't reply to your comments real quick and I don't thank you enough for the votes and the additions to your reading lists, but I am. Immensely gratified that you give me this chance to do some good before turning back to Allah.
This book started because of an ayah and then more ayahs left me mesmerized and sometimes, things are just too beautiful to not share with others.
I'm learning and will continue to do so all my life (in sha'Allah) I'm just so overwhelmed that Allah has given this chance to all of us, to make this journey together.
I love you all, each and everyone of you, because when you choose to read this book and vote on it, you do it for the sake of Allah and if there is any love that stays forever, it's the love for the sake of Allah.
You're all in my duas. May Allah give us all the opportunity to serve His Deen. May He bless you and your parents with health of the body and soul and wealth of Iman and knowledge.
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu 💖
Let's get to business now, shall we?
When Allah opens up the faults of the previous societies, we often overlook the intricacies because we think it's not about us.
But every lesson I've learnt in tafsir has made me realise that every single line-- heck every single word--is so vital to understanding the world and as a consequence, ourselves.
The Qur'an is a psychology book all its own. Every minute flaw of ours is spelled out for us and we're just left ashamed and in awe.
This book will blow you away, it'll seep into your skin and the effects of its touch will stay there forever.
One such part is when Allah describes the faults of the People of the Book of the Prophet's time.
The believers from Makkah were largerly unlettered, yet they had a penchant for poetry and literature all the same. The Jews of Medina were well-read and spoke eloquently. It is only natural for anyone to be attracted to an educated group and so their opinion was looked up to.
When Islam came, and claimed that it was from the religion of Abraham, the people of Arabia looked to the ones who'd been holding the scripture for a long time then, ie., the Jews and the Christians.
Where there were notable Jews like Abdullah bin Salam, there were certain sections of the People of the Book, who rejected the Prophethood of Rasoolullah SallAllahu alayhiwasallam.
They came up with certain tactics to stop the spread of Islam. Allah mentions them in Surah Aal-e-Imran verses 69-73 which I will summarize here :
»They used to hide the verses that would imply that Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) was the one who was promised to the children of Israel.
»They used to mix up the verses and confuse their own community, emphasizing what they liked and ignoring what they didn't.
