David drove us to where I worked, it was fairly busy, we were preparing for a concert that was to be held in the next few days.
"David this is a bad idea, people will see you." I mutter holding his hand.
"So?" He shrugs. "Wait here." He stops me in the middle of the grass where people stand to watch who ever is performing.
I wait there for a long time, many of my workers ask what I'm doing here on my day off and my answer was:
"Good question."
I didn't mind waiting, it was a perfectly warm day, though weather reports said there was a chance of rain later.
Finally, David steps on stage with some of the boys who play the backing instruments. "What are you doing?" I shout cupping my hands round my mouth to make myself sound louder.
"I've finally got my first single written," he smirks and grab the microphone tightly in his hand. "and it's all thanks to you, Blue Jean." He winks and licks his lips.
The boys start playing a groovy beat and David's mouth drops and his golden voice booms out of him.
"Blue Jean," he sings. "I just met a girl named Blue Jean."
I felt my heart melt, another song about me? This was like Rebel Rebel, but 10 years later!
I feel myself shiver with happiness, this couldn't be possible... I inspired him to write another song? Not even Angie did that!
David continued to sing his heart out, the band bobbing their heads in time with the beat... I felt as if I was at a concert myself!
Once the song finished, I had a million and one things to tell David...
That was beautiful.
Thank you.
Why me?
I love you.
Blue Jean... Ironic."Ros?" He mutters and jumps off the stage onto the grass. "Ros?" He repeats and lifts my chin.
I blink and manage a smile.
"Are you ok?" He asks.
I wrap my arms around his neck and bury my head into his shoulder, I can't speak, I could feel myself about to cry, I had no idea he was writing about me.
"Ros?" He repeats again.
"I love you." I whisper and a tear drops from the corner of my eye.
I lean out, wipe my eyes then put one of my hands on the back of his neck, the other stroking his cheek, gently caressing his beautiful jaw line and I smile to him.
David takes my face in his big hands, kisses my forehead lightly and whispers back: "I love you too... Blue Jean."
I release a shuddered laugh and grab his waist for me to hug. We stand there for what felt like hours, hugging.
When I realised everyone was staring, my cheeks turn a harsh red and I let go of David quickly.
Everyone has their mouths open, like fish blowing out bubbles in water, my eyes dotted around all the workers. "Boss?" One of them calls.
"Let's just say, I'm hooking up with Bowie." I blush and amazingly, everyone howls with cheers. A wave of claps rings in my ears.
"Woah, woah, guys..." I stop them. "This means I'm divorcing Will." I inform them.
Screams of excitement fill the concert grounds, they were pleased?!
"Finally Boss!" They shout.
"Guess they seem happy about my upcoming divorce." I mutter quietly to myself.
David made me and all my workers a cup of tea, and together we all talked about the new song, and what could be the next idea.
Once we spent the day there, and David signing autographs for many of them, he drove me back to his. "David," I mutter and watch splatters of tiny rain drops fall onto the car windscreen. "what happens now?" It looked like the forecast was correct.
"What do you mean my darling?" He whispers and closes his car window.
"I'm getting a divorce-"
"Eventually." He spits cutting my sentence off.
"What?"
"Ros, divorces don't just happen over night, mine took months. I'd be amazed if you get a divorce by the end of the year!" He exclaims.
"But you said you'll get me the best lawyers." I mutter.
"I know," he breathes. "I'm just-"
"You're worried how long this is going to take... Aren't you." I state.
"Ros-"
"David, I waited for you. Now it's your turn. I'm doing this for you."
"And for yourself." He sighs. "You're important too."
Stuck in Brixton traffic, I watch the rain fall harder and more randomly, the quietness was relaxing and I was losing myself in thought, this whole divorce conversation was bringing me down, just like the rain was. The patter of sound it gave off made me think of how I need to lose myself in freedom again. The new song played over and over again, bouncing in my head, then I had an idea.
"David?" I mutter.
"Yes my little rebel?"
"Can we go on another car ride tonight? Like we did that one night a few months ago?"
He smiles, looks at me and nods gracefully. "I was just thinking the same idea."
I share his smile and let the night eat the day and see the stars plague the blackness. I dressed warmly again, and pulled on my blue jeans.
Once again, I hopped into the car, the rain had died away and the car roof was down.
David's engine purrs then once on the open roads again, it roared like it did in my memory.
David flicks his finger onto the stereo and Modern Love begins to play, I shake my head and find his new single he hadn't released yet and let it play. Blue Jean echoed the roads, and soon I knew this would make David millions, a number I dared dream of.
In the corner of my eye I see him looking at me and I look to him with warm eyes. "I love you." He says.
"I love you too Brixton Boy." Once I've said it back, David's eyes stay firmly on the road, but still, his godlike face smiles, the usual crooked smile he always gave.
