"I can't..." I whisper.
"Mum?" I hear Ziggy's voice again, more real this time, more softer.
I can breathe again, I can hear myself inhale and exhale and I can feel-
"ARRRGGGHHH!" I scream out as my eyes squint tightly trying to control the pain.
The burns. I can feel the burns.
"Mum!" Ziggy says panicked again.
I feel someone's hand lock into mine, scared of the thought I shake it away from me and my eyes open quickly to see who tired to touch me so affectionately.
I take a deep breath and my hand slips back into place with his.
"I thought you were-"
"I'm not him." David whispers peacefully. "I've been so worried about you Rosalind." David stresses.
"I'm-" I scream again then take a breath. "I'm fine."
David's features seem even more perfect now, he glowed, he was my fallen angel, why would God possibly send one of his best angels down here on earth? To fall in love with me?
I look to the other side of the bed to see Eleanor sitting there with Tommy on her lap.
"Boys you shouldn't be in hear watching this..." I say covering my face.
"We love you." Tommy says and kisses my head.
"I love you to Major and Stardust." I whisper and smile at my boys nicknames.
"El, could you just take them outside whilst I talk to David?" I ask tiredly and she just leaves with the boys.
As soon as the door closes David kisses my dry lips and then my nose.
"Rebel, Rebel... I didn't think you'd run into this much trouble..."
"What happened to me...?"
David sighs and puts his hands over his mouth then takes a long deep sigh again.
"Will set the stage on fire, and you were in the middle of it. El called the ambulance and fire fighters as soon as she saw the blaze... Ziggy was traumatised!" David exclaims. "He screamed out for you and-"
"He did?" I ask in reassurance that I did actually hear him.
"Yes. The paramedics and fire fighters came quickly, but you're severely burned on your hands, your shoulder, but mostly your feet. I don't blame you for screaming, Ros." He mutters towards the end.
"Where's Will?" I ask more worriedly now.
"They're questioning him, the police believe it to be attempted murder so-"
"No, he's just lost his mind, he would never purposely try to kill me! He needs help, not punishment!" I argue.
"Ros, it's not down to us... The police might see that he's not quite with it, but-" David tries but I bite back.
"He's not an idiot David."
"I know that." He hisses back.
For once there's an awkward silence. David clearly didn't want to say anything just incase I snapped at him again, and I didn't want to speak because I was still in a huge amount of pain.
"I should leave you to get some sleep." David purrs as he stands up.
"No-" I grab his wrist and plead him to stay. "No."
David sits down again in his warm seat and strokes the blonde mess away from my face. Without even looking in a mirror I already knew I looked like I had been hit by a bus, or close to being a burnt piece of toast...
"Can you pass me my water?" I ask him.
David passes me a bottled water and unscrews the cap for me, he takes my chin with one finger and gently tips the bottle to my lips. After a few gulps, my mouth felt refreshed but I knew soon enough, my mouth would be begging for the liquid again soon.
I watched David, his movements became slow in my mind, he wasn't clumsy, he was graceful with everything he did...!
How did he manage to run into a train wreck like me? How did he find me?
"I shouldn't have left you here." He mutters to himself. "You should've come to Berlin with me, then you wouldn't be here. Then again, if you hadn't of met me-"
"I wouldn't of had Ziggy, one of the greatest things that ever happened to me." I stop him, and think of the positives of us meeting.
"Ros, I've got you into all this mess! Because of me, you got pushed into the road 10 years ago. You've faced death more times then a cat with 9 lives..." He stresses.
"Yet I'm still here."
"What if one day, you're not? I can't live without you." David shakes his head horrified at the thoughts of losing me.
"I have too much to live for David. But I need a favour..." I trail off.
"What is it?" David asks.
"Can you look after me once I come out of hospital? I won't be able to walk, or cook dinner or go to work for a few weeks... And what about my work?! The stage is ruined! It's going to cost me so much! And the-"
David kisses me to stop me from babbling on, I was clearly stressing for no good reason, my health was probably the most important thing at the moment. David's kiss was soft yet powerful enough for me to forget what I was even going on about.
"Shh," He coos close to my face. "I will sort everything. Starting with this..." He pulls out a brown envelope and to me, it looks rather important.
"What is that?"
"Before the police found Will, he signed the papers for the divorce."
"He did that quick." I roll my eyes.
"Will's very good at playing hide and seek, they didn't find him till a few hours after the fire." David tells me.
"Where was he?" I continue with the questions.
"He went back to yours, got the papers signed then left them on the kitchen table, he then went to the pub. That's when Larry called the police to tell them he was there."
"How did Larry know?"
"It was all over the news, Ros."
I feel the burns erupt again as the pain explodes inside my veins, another scream bursts out of my throat and David squeezes my hand. Once my scream ends I take a big deep breath then groan.
"How's the pain?"
"It's like a slow burn." I sigh. "I bet, in like 20 years, we'll look back at this and laugh."
"Or I'll write a song about it." David smiles and I copy his action.
"And call it what."
"Slow burn, but I won't write it for another 20 years." David confesses.
"You'll forget about all of this in 20 years time."
"Let's see, shall we?" He smirks.
