Chapter 23
I started up my bike and was out of my driveway in moments. Lysander always told me to stop putting in my headphones when riding but something about blasting music and having the wind blow against my face just had me doing it over and over. Right now I had Crown The Empire playing as I gunned the engine into town. I rounded the corner of the dinner and sped past school which still had police surrounding outside. When I reached the hospital I realized that I was still wearing the clothes from yesterday but I couldn’t have cared less right at that moment. I had parked my bike and was walking into the back entrance of the emergency room. My backpack holding the things I found inside was on my back and my helmet was in my right hand.
“Ocean!” I heard my name being called. I turned my head to see Milo sitting in one of the chairs. It looked like he just woke up.
“Did you just wake up?” I asked.
“I’ve been here since 3 am, yeah I just woke up. What are you doing here?” He asked back
“I had them call me when Ronnie woke up.” I responded to his question.
“Oh well I guess go ahead. I’m going to go get something to eat then head to school since you’re here.” He said and I quickly called to him.
“Milo don’t worry about school, no one is in school right now.”
“Wait Why?” He asked
“I don’t know exactly what happened but since I was here late last night I was too tired to get up today. Jake called me and told me something went down and school was closed until most likely after spring break.” I said.
“Dude are you serious?” He asked
“Yeah I’m being serious. I passed the school on the way here, pretty much every cop in this town is there.”
“Damn I had a test to take today!” He screamed
“That’s all you’re worried about?” I asked seriously not understanding his logic. “Dude we don’t have to go to school for like 3 weeks any normal kid would be jumping for joy at the news of this.”
“I’m not a normal kid! And besides I have to keep my grades up if I want to….” He stopped
“If you want to what?”
“Only Ronnie knows about this so if you speak a word you’ll die got it.”
“Yeah ok.” I said
“I got accepted into Michigan State University.” He said
“How do you know that, I thought most people get letters after the spring quarter?”
“I sent in my stuff early my mom doesn’t even know that I got accepted but I’ve been thinking about staying here.”
“Why?” I asked “I mean no offence but this place sucks. If I didn’t have the guys I would have been long gone.”
“I just feel like I would be better off staying near my sister.” He said
“And you would completely forget about College?” I asked
“You don’t get it Ocean…”
“You’re right I don’t.”
“When our dad left, I took over. My mother would go out at all hours of the night and wouldn’t come home until the sun rose and most of the time it was with some guy. Now knowing it was always Dave but anyhow I would be the one making sure she got up on time to go to school, made sure she did her homework, I was always the one getting out of the trouble she got herself into.”
