Chapter 36
When I was 10 my parents took Milo and I to a pool party, I didn't know how to swim and when I jumped into the pool I sank. That was the day that I became addicted to the water and the feeling of the air rushing out of your lungs. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through veins trying to push me to the top, my body wouldn't take me. I watched the blur version of my dad jump into the pool a few inches in front of myself, he had pulled my body up above the water. My heart was racing inside my chest as oxygen filled my empty lungs
I opened my eyes to the bright afternoon light and the very blue sky. I realized then that it hadn't been a dream, that I really was standing in a field of sunflowers in Summerland; the in between place. I can't begin to describe the vastness of these fields except to say that there are many thousands of acres. It was almost too big for my brain to take in, sort of like seeing the ocean for the very first time after a lifetime in the desert, it was beautiful in a surreal way. I had wonder if all souls come here after their death to this place, to this field or if there were many places they come to. Past the field there stood lush rolling hills and to my left a lake that seemed to stretch just as long as the sunflowers. I knew what I needed to do but I had no idea where to even begin to look or where to go.
Selena told me that this place sort of works on a link, ask and you shall receive type of thing so I asked it.
"Where can I find Emmelina, Ocean's sister?"
Before I knew what was happening the sunflowers began to blow and my long black hair blew all around me. Suddenly my vision blurred as I felt my body being carried somewhere past the field and tress to a small pond at the bottom of one of the hills. I was standing at the tree line about to steep near the water when a girl walked towards it with something in hand. I could see that she had black hair curled down reaching just about her middle back and she was wearing a White shirt, black jeans and a pair of white converse. I watched as she placed herself on the ground and the small object into the pond.
When I tried to step forward my foot hit a stick and it snapped.
"Who's there?" The girl asked as she turned her head in my direction. "Who are you?"
"I'm here to help you, Emmelina."
"How do you know who I am?"
"This is going to sound crazy but your mother sent me."
"My mother's dead, she was murdered years ago along with me."
"I don't have time to explain everything, I only have...." I said looking down to my watch "6 hours and 20 minutes"
"For what?" She asked
"Long story short, you weren't murdered. I was sent to come and bring you and your sister home back to the living world."
"My mother said..."
"I know what she told you...she told me. She lied."
"Why would my mother lie to me?"
"I don't know but she did Emmelina. I am supposed to bring you home so you'll help me."
"With what?"
"A little problem that I am having. Look I have something from your mother that apparently explains all this but we need to find your sister first and we need to hurry."
"You said I can go home?"
"Yes."
"Can I ask about my brothers?"
"They're fine but don't know anything about this. I didn't want to come here and not find you guys and give them hope."
"I get it and you must know something if you knew I was Emmelina."
