Milo's POV
Tonight was rather a very quiet night. Mom and Dave got home around 4 o'clock. They waked in the front door talking to each other like nothing happened. Ronnie had been up in her room blasting her stupid stereo since we got home after lunch and hasn't come down for dinner. I really don't understand how she could listen to that crap that she does all the time. Dave had made Grilled Chicken Salad with Gazpacho Dressing and I was sitting at the table across from my soon to be step-dad and my adopted mother. I couldn't look at either of them, when I try I just get angry. My face was glued to my food in front of me as the two of them talked about a new movie coming out that they wanted to see.
"Milo?" I heard my name being called from the other side of the table. I didn't look up from my food instead I pushed some of the chicken around the white plate.
"Milo, are you alright?" this time it was Dave. I couldn't tell if it was the right time for me to spill everything that I found out last night.
"Did you know that I was adopted?" it fell out, I didn't really mean to say it out loud but now it was time to face whatever was going to be said. My mother's fork fell onto her plate and I could see Dave's eyes go wide.
"Milo...."
"Don't lie to me." I said standing pointing to the woman who was supposed to be my mother. I could tell that she didn't know what to say. She and Dave both stared at me shock written deeply across their faces.
"Milo how do you know about that?" my mother asked.
"Just tell me the truth. Did you know that I was adopted Dave?" I said looking to him. He looked to my mother; I guess he was trying to figure out if it was his place.
"I knew." He responded back
"You knew because my father was your friend right?"
"We all were friends...."
"Even though you were a year older then both of them." I finished for him. He only shook his head signing that what I said was the truth.
"I guess you know where I am going or are you going to pretend you don't know?" I asked
"Milo, please sit down. We can talk about this but you need to calm down." Dave was speaking but I only shook my head
"How do you know this Milo?" my mother asked. I just stared at her wondering if it would ever sink in that the woman standing before me wasn't my birth mother.
"Ryan.... he was here. How did he know where we were?" she asked looking to Dave for answers.
"Yes mother he was here and he told us everything. He told us about you and Dave, how I was adopted, how Dave here is Ronnie's biological father, HOW HE LEFT BECAUSE OF YOU."
All of a sudden I heard a loud screeching yell coming from upstairs as the sound of glass shattering came moments later. My head turned to the only other two people in the room then as though my feet were set on tracks I moved as fast as I could though the house up to the stairs and into the one room at the end of the hall.
Her door was only half open but from the light I could see Ronnie sitting in the corner closest to her balcony.
"Ronnie?" I could feel my hands shaking as I saw her and the sight of her room. The covers on her bed were thrown across the room, glass from the balcony doors covered the floor as did her now broken stereo along with what looked like....blood.
"What in the world happened in here?" Dave was behind me now looking onto the mess that was Ronnie's room. Ronnie's ceiling fan was torn from the roof leaving a hole to the sky and the cold wind came blasting in from the two broken doors.
