Chapter 37

I stood in total awe outside the glass skyscraper that made me feel so tiny & insignificant. The towering building stretched upwards towards the clouds, the top literally vanishing in the distance. I always thought being on a board in the middle of the ocean while the sun went down was the most beautiful thing, this building was literally something else. The glass almost sparkled as the sun's afternoon rays hit the building in absolute wonder.

Emmelina stood next to me arms crossed against her chest waiting for me to take a step. People or souls walked on by almost as if they didn't notice us. Some sat and drank coffee outside the little shop across the street, some had bags siting by or talked to others. If you had somehow ended up here you would never had known that it was a place for souls. It looked just like New York or maybe Paris, there was cars driving past horse carriages and people crossing trying to not get hit.

"You can imagine anything here, just think and it will appear." Emmelina said "That's why this place looks so different. Someone some time ago imagined horse carriages and then after a few generations cars popped up but it all stays here unless you imagined them not."

"So I could imagine lets say a cherry red 69 Shelby Mustang and then when I'm done with it imagine it not in front of me?"

"Exactly."

"That's so stupid. If I imagined a Mustang in front of me then I'm not going to not want it."

"That's why all this stuff is here. The people who imagined it had use for it and most of the stuff still stands because they didn't uncreated it when they left."

"You mean pass over?"

"Or went back to the living world." She said "Look you're going to have to go in there without me, I'm not allowed. When you get in there just think what you want to know and you will know where to go alright."

"Why aren't you allowed?"

"It's a long story in which we don't have time for. I'll be over there, come find me when you get your answer alright." Emmelina said as she pointed over to the little café. I nod and watched as she crosses the street and entered through the door.

I shook the feeling that she was hiding something and walked up the steps to the Great Hall and entered through the rotating doors. The second I entered my mouth dropped open at the sight of the room. There was an entire wall that was a window that gave most of the room light, multiple tables and chairs where filled with people heads planted into books, a large statue stood in the middle of the room as shelves filled with books found their way to the ceiling. I've never seen so many books before not even in the school's library. After being stunned I remember what Emmelina had told me.

"Great Hall I need your assistance." I thought "I need to know how to find Max and bring her back here."

Soon something lead me to another part of the building. A black door stood in front of me blocking me from seeing anything on the other side. There was a symbol sketched into the wood and by the splintered edges and scuffed on the bottom it looked as though this door was old, maybe as old as the building itself. Silence was the only thing I could hear as I watched my hand reach towards the old black nob. The handle felt icy in my fingers as I wrapped my hand around it and as I opened the door a warm burst of air greeted me by blowing my hair back. I hadn't realized the door had creaked when I opened it but as it slammed shut I heard it.

The room itself was dark, the only thing I could see was a chair and a table next to it with a glass orb. Was this going to show me how to get to Max? To get her back? Or was this just a joke? I walked to the chair and sat down slowly waiting for something to come and laugh at me. Suddenly the orb started to glow lighting the whole room around me and transporting me to the field of sunflowers I had entered. There was a small white pavilion just up ahead, I believed it would only take a few steps to reach the steps if I would just move but something was keeping me.
