Ronnie's POV
I sat there watching the rerun of Adventure time. My feet were up on my mother's coffee table, the boot taking up most of the space. I sat there thinking of the homework sitting on my desk, I've never been bored enough to do any of the work teachers gave me. Maybe I could get it and do it down here of course I need to call Collin and find about this him and Ashley thing. I flipped though the channels once more then picked myself up and went to the stairs.
"Ronnie" my mother said behind me. "What?" I asked turning to face her. She looked like she hadn't had much sleep in the last few nights.
"I was planning on going into town today...I was wondering if you want to come." She said rather then asked. I could tell she wanted to say something else and Im glad she didn't. "I have homework." I said emotionless then began climbing the stairs. "It'll only take a couple hours, I... I miss our days." She said getting that hit of tears in her voice. "That was a long time ago mom." I said stepping up onto another creaky spot.
"Ronnie please go spend some time with your mother, I have to have a meeting here since we came back earlier. I don't think you would like to stay in your room all day." Dave said out of nowhere from upstairs somewhere.
"Fine a couple hours." I said steeping up the last few steps then limping to my room. "Im leaving in an hour." My mother yelled up to me as I shut my door. I went into the bathroom and pulled my hair out of the tie and brushed it out making sure my bangs were pulled to one side. I found my lip rings on my box that held all my makeup; I put them in wishing I had the red ones Collin gave me for my birthday. In the middle of putting on eye liner I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in I guess." I screamed. "Ronnie?" I heard from the door. "In here." I said then Dave appeared in the doorway holding something in his hand. I looked at the reflection of him and the black box. "What is that?" I asked putting in my left blue contact, then the black eyeliner. "You don't normally have blue eyes?" he asked with a confused look on his face. "No they're normally gray." I said then repeated my question "What in the box?"
"Oh um well it's kind of really lame, but the founders have this spring break ball every year, and since you and your brother are new they are I guess welcoming you." He said standing there awkwardly. "You still haven't answered my question" I said trying to find my black and red striped jacket.
"Oh umm here." He said as he handed me the box. "It's like a tradition; the daughters of the founders have to wear the family stone, it's stupid I know but I can't make them change to the 21st century." He said. I opened the black box, inside held a necklace. It had a dark red stone in the middle, and I couldn't help but think of Trace's eyes when I first meet him; they were the same color. The stone was held together by diamonds that surrounded the necklace all around to the back where the hook was. It literally looked like something from the eighteen hundreds.
"It's....it looks old." I said touching it gentle. It defiantly wasn't my style; I wasn't the dress up and go out type of person. "It is. It was my great, great, great grandmothers." He said smiling "She must have been a queen then." I said joking completely.
"So when is this ball thing besides during spring break?" I asked closing the box and placing it on my sink counter. "And shouldn't you give this to my mother and me something less likely to get broken." I said finally seeing my jacket that I've been looking for since I moved here.
"Well I have your mother already taken care of, and like I said I can't make you not wear it. The other founders would have my head. And the founders and I haven't decided on a date yet but for the last couple years it's the Saturday right before the week off" He said laughing a little.
