Chapter 39
The good thing about this house was that the stairs were right there when you open the front door. I was easily able to get upstairs and in my room before anyone noticed my car in front of the house of course that didn't stop them from coming in. Milo had been the first to notice I was home but not because he saw my car, I had texted his phone and told him to get the stuff out of the trunk of my car. He had brought them up and were currently sitting on the floor by my desk, and now was sitting on my bed waiting for me to open the present from him. It was wrapped in neon green wrapping paper with a card in a neon green envelope.
"I tell you every year that you don't have to get me stuff...."
"And yet every year I do because it's your birthday and you deserve to have one day to celebrate you." My annoying brother said "Come on open it."
I grabbed the envelope and opened that first. The cards had a skull on it with Eighteen Today underneath and the inside always says the same thing every year "Happy Birthday enjoy your youth while you have it." Milo handed me the neon green wrapped gift and I quickly unwrapped it. What was left was a brown leather bound journal with a lock and a music note cast on the front cover, there also was a Calligraphy Kit that included instead of a quill a pen with removable ink.
"Thanks Milo!" I said knowing my brother would do stuff like this.
"I expect you to use that, you can write me letters while I'm away at college."
"Or I could just pick up my phone and call you!" I said giving him a knowing glare. He rolled his eyes at me and picked himself off of the bed.
"If you want there's cupcakes downstairs with neon green frosting." I watched as he walked towards the door "Dave made them, at least that's what he said."
"I really don't feel like going downstairs!"
"You know if you don't come down, they'll come up."
"Can't you just tell them I'm resting, I didn't get a lot of sleep last night Milo and I'm tired!" I wined.
"I'll tell them but I'm telling you there will be a knock on your door soon enough." My brother said as he walked out then shut my door. I put Milo's gifts on the floor by my bed, rolled over onto my side and put my pillow over my head hoping to get at least a little sleep. My hopes went out the window when just as Milo said a knock and my mother voice filled the silence.
"Ronnie are ok, Milo said you weren't feeling well?" Her annoying voice asked.
"I said I was exhausted and that I wanted to sleep." I said, the words probably muffled to her.
"I saw the gifts that Milo brought in, who gave them to you?"
"My friends, mom."
"That was nice of them, I guess they didn't know about your birthday phobia."
"Mom, it's not a phobia and you know what." I said pulled the pillow from my head "You wouldn't know anything about it since you were never around."
She took a breath almost as letting the angry words subside then said "I thought moving here was going to give us all a new start Ronnie...."
"Yeah cause marrying the man that you had an affair with resulting in two children will totally give us all a new start." Low blow I know but it's her fault that we don't get along like we should.
"You know what forget it, happy birthday Ronnie." She said walking out of my room slamming the door in the process. I rolled my eyes and yawned realizing then that I was most likely not going to be able to get some much needed rest. I lifted myself from my bed, grabbed my IPad and turned on my stereo to whatever station that didn't have a stupid commercial on. I log onto my nonexistent Facebook and saw I had way too many notification to even care, I did have some people wish me happy birthday and had some new friend request.
