As the small boy from District 5 entered the Giver's Annex, he couldn't help but stare in awe at the many books coating the walls. Despite that he had seen selections similar to those inside the room many times before, it still fascinated Monty to see so many pages of words at once. Racing up to the shelves upon shelves of literary works, he climbed up onto the ladder to reach the highest books, tracing his hand along the spines in wonder. The Giver shouted in alarm as Monty grabbed a rung the Giver knew was loose; it was too late. Monty fell.

7. District 11 Male: Shadow Thantoes Morte
The hostile boy from District 11 encountered the Giver shortly after, but did not respond nearly s well to his new surroundings as the young boy before him. As the Giver explained the process of sending him into the dream world and requested shadow Thantoes Morte lay on the bed, the boy was more than reluctant. Hesitating to trust the Giver and wary after countless encounters with "trustworthy" mutts, Shadow drew his weapon. In response, the Giver cooly disarmed the boy in the blink of an eye, possessing a hidden weapon of his own. Displeased with Shadow's refusal, the Giver executed the tribute.

6. District 6 Female: Ashlyn Roxen
As Ashlyn Roxen spiraled into an abyss of memories, she found herself in the haunting moment of her mother's death. The young girl watched her maternal figure stabbed again and again, reliving the time of her childhood she had hoped to never recall in such detail. Grief consumed her; she watched the life leave her mother's eyes, blood splattered everywhere. And in the end, seeing such a painful scene again was too much for Ashlyn Roxen to cope with. Overcome with emotions, her mind shut down on itself, pushed beyond its limits, unrecoverable. Her mother reached out, taking her hand; it was over.
