Task Eight [F]: The Word Thief

He had walked along a tightrope for quite some time, and he knew as the final unfortunate souls fell, he could as well. The tightrope was growing too thin to balance upon, the stress too great to handle, the bouncing of the wire too extreme for him to stay afloat.

The end had come for all but one in the arena, and all but one of the Gamemakers.

Pluto Solaris would only be responsible for two of twenty-seven deaths, for he had created the end at the beginning, woven the final strings into place. All but one book of his choice had been cast aside, and he became responsible for the end. Perhaps it would give him a chance at life.

Perhaps it would solidify his death.

He knew not the inner workings of his superior's mind, but he did know the end could prove him worthy. Everything hung by a thread, and he wished his success would not be Paella's downfall, but at the same time, he couldn't wish himself dead. The conflict wouldn't leave his exhausted mind.

It would be over soon, though- he'd die with his finale, or he wouldn't.

THE TASK:

Katelyn 'Kate' Dodger, Esther Tehnos, and Aspen Kinsley, you are the finalists of Literature. Congratulations on making it this far. You'll have about five seconds of peace on the ground after the tornado settles before a bomb falls on your house.

Welcome to Nazi Germany- in the end, we've tossed your tributes into the world of Liesel Meminger. Your house collapses around you, and perhaps you pass out, or cling onto consciousness by a thread. You'll lay there for a bit, or perhaps it seems longer under the rubble where you struggle to breathe. Perhaps this is a moment of reflection on your life, perhaps a lost thought of the past or future. Perhaps it's simply darkness.

Someone pulls you from the rubble, unrecognizable. Your street has been reduced to nothing but rubble. Bodies retrieved from the wreckage line the edge of the road, covered in dust and grime. Your tribute goes to look closer, only to find both their family members/people they held dear and the other tributes among the fallen.

Good luck to all of you.
